Work will be primarily conducted in a collaborative group coordinating across different scientific and engineering disciplines to better understand and predict stress corrosion cracking. Interns with interest in either materials or corrosion science, or geology/environmental science, are being sought.

On any given day you will be involved in:

+ Electrochemical and mechanical testing of canister materials, including newly developed corrosion coatings

+ Sampling, chemical analysis, geochemical modeling and experimental projects evaluating dust and aerosol chemistry

+ Perform electrochemical and solid mechanics modeling and simulation

+ Work closely with electrochemical experimentalists to provide validated results of complex and challenging problems

+ Materials preparation and characterization, such as optical profilometery, scanning electron microscopy, microhardness determination, etc.

+ Development of new testing setups/techniques for unique sample geometries and/or environmental constraints

+ Support other chemistry and materials-science based projects as needed

+ General lab maintenance
