What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Intern - Systems Engineer, R&D Undergrad Year Round

As a systems engineer intern, you are pursuing an undergraduate degree in an electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer engineering, applied physics, applied mathematics, information security, or computer science program. You will work with a team of systems engineers and scientists leading the re-engineering of one of the nation’s current nuclear weapon systems. The initial assignment will be a supporting role for multiple systems engineering teams, but the potential for increased responsibility exists as you build your skills in systems engineering and your understanding of the warhead system.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Learn and assist in updating comprehensive database solutions to store and analyze functional electrical requirements

+ Gain the warhead functional design and system engineering experience

+ Support system testing efforts

+ Learn requirement tools and techniques used in the National Laboratory environment

+ Maintain accuracy of the functional derivation requirements for system margin analysis

+ Apply data analytic techniques to experimental data sets

+ Write project documentation

+ Exercise critical thinking to identify, assess, and mitigate risks

+ Present results of work at peer reviews

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program

+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+ U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Ability to work on-site at the Livermore, CA or the Albuquerque, NM site during the school year

+ Product development or manufacturing experience

+ Knowledge and experience in software development methodologies and techniques

+ Experience designing and qualifying electronic hardware, software, and/or test equipment

+ Communication protocol analysis experience

+ Experience with electrical and/or software testing

+ Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills

+ Programming proficiency in LabVIEW, or one or more programming languages such as, Java, C#, C++

+ Previous experience writing requirements, testing, and qualification plans

+ Interest in full-time employment with a nuclear deterrence system-engineering team after graduation from a graduate program

About Our Team:

The W80-4 Systems Engineering Department is the primary systems organization for the W80-4 Life Extension Project at Sandia National Laboratories. With multidisciplinary groups of engineers and scientists located in Livermore, California, our organization provides systems engineering expertise from system concept to warhead production. Our mechanical, electrical, surety, and nuclear safety teams provide expertise in leading warhead system conceptual, design, development, integration, and test activities, up to the first production unit. The group uses first principles to build confidence and testing evidence that each assembled warhead meets NNSA and military requirements for a predictable, safe, and effective nuclear deterrent.

Security Clearance:
