Job Description

The CIPHER IT branch of the Georgia Tech Research Institute seeks an IT Systems Administrator with an interest in IT systems administration, IT Operations, and IT Infrastructure. The ideal candidate will show a well-rounded interest in computing research in general, with a specific interest in the aforementioned focus areas. A candidate should also be capable of working independently and effectively with minimal supervision for up to 10 days. The candidate will work closely with the Field Office IT Support Lead to improve day-to-day IT operations for CIPHER.

Job Duties:

  • Develop training materials and documentation
  • Provide technical input for project development activities
  • Collaborate with other groups around CIPHER on cross-disciplinary projects
  • Install, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot workstation and peripheral hardware and software.
  • Update Windows, Linux, and Mac OS based desktop software/applications; maintain documentation on installed applications.
  • Provide users with assistance in working in specific applications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field of study
  • Solid understanding of computing hardware
  • Solid understanding of operating systems
  • Experience with source code management tools (Git, Subversion) and contributing to large code-bases, and an understanding of the software development life cycle
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Ability to follow Georgia Tech policies and procedures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of August 2020 and skills relevant to this position will be considered

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices
  • Experience with software deployment models
  • Experience with software development using languages such as C, C++, C#, Bash, PHP and/or Python

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
