Job Description

The HPC and Data Analytics Branch at GTRI's Information and Communications Lab (ICL) is looking for qualified candidates who are interested in applying their Computer Science, Engineering and analytical skills to solve applied research problems. This position will work in a group with a focus on projects that apply analytics and machine learning at scale to applied research problems. This position is looking for qualified candidates to support projects centered around predictive maintenance and reliability engineering. This position will require expertise in traditional data science analysis processes as well as software engineering skills needed to deploy and build decision support aides. The team is looking for candidates with a full range of skills in statistical analysis, programming, and data science backgrounds (e.g. machine learning and artificial intelligence). Candidates experienced with process automation and optimization are also highly encouraged to apply.

Job Duties

  • Summarize and analyze disparate data sources including time-series data
  • Ability to work with disparate data sources ranging from structured databases to unstructured data
  • Ability/experience in understanding complex and large data sets in order to build insights and features
  • Application of statistical skills to analyze and develop metrics necessary for optimizing key targets such as productivity, up-time, etc.
  • Writing and publishing technical papers and reports summarizing work

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Industrial Systems and Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Analytics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Statistics, Industrial Systems and Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Analytics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Statistics, Industrial Systems and Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Analytics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Statistics, Industrial Systems and Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Analytics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December, 2019
  • Strong experience in Python (preferred Python 3 but Python 2 is fine)
  • Python libraries for analysis (Pandas, sklearn, matplotlib or any other graphical tool)
  • Experience with Databases
  • Experience with Visual Analytics tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multiple years of experience with applied statistics on real-world problems
  • Multiple years of experience with Time-series analysis and associated methods
  • Multiple years of experience with Predictive analytics and machine learning
  • Multiple years of experience with Production Process Simulation and Optimization
