MITREs Software Engineering and Computing Department is seeking passionate Cloud Engineers who want to be technical leaders. We value engineers who want to lead projects to help government sponsors engineer systems to solve challenging problems affecting our national security.


Key Functions:

Play a trusted role in helping government sponsors apply engineering best practices to the IT modernization and cloud adoption needs of the Federal government.  Cloud subject matter expert in the full array of cloud adoption lifecycle for the Federal government, from developing concept and strategy for large government enterprises, to planning and processes for legacy migrations, to implementing cloud solutions, integrating cross-functional capabilities (i.e., cyber security, acquisition, process change and technology), and performing research and development into applying engineering disciplines and best practices to cloud adoption programs.


Cloud adoption offers a widely diverse set of activities working across the software engineering lifecycle:

     Help sponsors understand and adopt the cloud

     Provide clear and objective cloud advice, independent of commercial influence

     Provide project and technical leadership in identifying, strategizing, planning and executing multi-year enterprise cloud adoption program support

     Gain and maintain an understanding of major policies and strategies in IT and cloud

     Integrate cross-functional and cross-technical cloud adoption activities, including IT governance, cybersecurity (including FedRAMP), architecture, IaaS/PaaS/SaaS integration, data integration, acquisition, CSP performance oversight, brokering, business process changes, and cloud education

     Support IT modernization and cloud adoption at the macro and micro levels

     Analyze migration approaches and conduct migration planning

     Modernize IT business process by applying new methods and models such as DevOps, DevSecOps, cross-domain cloud solutions, integrated continuous monitoring, business intelligence, and more

     Maintain currency in cloud computing technologies

     Explore proof-of-concept prototypes using cloud technologies

     Contribute to a range of independent technical analyses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar field and 8 years of experience.  

Required Qualifications:

Providing project and technical leadership in cloud adoption is a complex and comprehensive capability. 

     BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years experience

     Experience in a leadership role in IT with an understanding of cloud engineering

     Ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret level security clearance

     Excellent written and verbal communications skills.


Desired Qualifications:

Candidates are expected to meet at least 50-75% of the desired qualifications:

     Understand cloud essential characteristics, service and deployment models, and integration of all into a total cloud solution

     Understand multi-cloud environments

     Understand migration methods and practices

     Understand how to migrate and integrate applications and data in the cloud, including migrating to SaaS solutions

     Understand the current and emerging commercial and government cloud trends and services

     Understand how to utilize and optimize commercially available cloud services for Federal government benefit

     Familiarity of agile and DevOps/DevSecOps practices

     Experience in leadership roles in cloud for federal and commercial domains, including IT modernization strategy, planning and execution

     Experience architecting integrated solutions in cloud environments (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS), especially hybrid and multi-cloud

     Experience with cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Bluemix, GCP)

     Experience with cloud computing architectures and options (e.g., VMs, containers, serverless)
