University of Glasgow
School of Computing Science
Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Reader in Low Carbon and Sustainable Computing
Ref 050570
World Changers Welcome. Join us and make your mark.
The University of Glasgow, established in 1451, is a member of the UK's Russell Group of leading universities. The University is committed to enhancing its position as one of the world's great broad-based research-intensive universities.
The School of Computing Science has started a new Theme (similar to a Research Centre) on the topic of Low Carbon and Sustainable Computing and welcomes applications for positions to strengthen this effort. Three positions are available.
The vision for the Low Carbon and Sustainable Computing Theme is of a society where computing is not only energy efficient but based on a less-is-more philosophy. With the end of Moore’s Law and the urgency of the climate emergency, the assumption of unlimited growth in computing resources is no longer viable. A fundamental rethink is needed, not only of the way we compute but also of the way we use computing resources. As the research in this Theme aims to be strongly interdisciplinary, both within Computing Science and across other disciplines, we welcome applications in research areas that complement the existing strengths in any of the existing sections in the School: Glasgow Systems Section (GLASS), Glasgow Interactive SysTems (GIST), Information, Data and Analysis (IDA) and Formal Analysis, Theory and Algorithms section (FATA).
The postholders will develop, lead and sustain research of international standard in Computing Science; contribute to teaching, assessment, project supervision and curriculum design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and participate in School management and organisation.
For appointment at Reader you will have an outstanding track record of national and international distinction and leadership in research, including publications, income, and awards, bringing external recognition and distinction to yourself and the University.
These positions are equivalent to US tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor. We particularly encourage applications from women and other groups who are traditionally under-represented in Computing Science.
