We have an opening for a maintenance mechanic / mechanical utilities operator. You will operate and maintain a wide variety of sitewide mechanical utilities equipment and systems, site wide at LLNL's Livermore and Tracy, CA sites. You will interact with coworkers, supervisors, building clients, and other crafts personnel. This position is in the Facilities and Infrastructure Department.

Essential Duties
- Provide site-wide operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems pertaining to LLNL water and sewage treatment systems.
- Maintain and operate plant equipment in conjunction with site wide under-ground utilities distribution systems, which include; natural gas, sewer collection system, centralized compressed air system, domestic water, low conductivity condenser water, and de-ionized water.
- Analyze daily water quality, temperature, pressure and flow records.
- Work from drawings, procedures and verbal/written instructions to keep plant and research systems operating.
- Maintain, operate, and repair pumps, heat exchangers, chemical addition pumps, valves, cooling tower components, sewage collection equipment, domestic water distribution and treatment, and all manner of mechanical system components.
- Use all standard tools necessary of the water shop maintenance mechanic tasks.
- Prepare standard reports, permit requirements, deficiency forms, and preventive maintenance work requests utilizing written or computer format.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or apprentice training completion or equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Ability to obtain State of California Water Distribution/ Treatment Operator License.
- Experience with multiple mechanical systems, similar to shipboard systems, centralized campus systems, or refinery operations.
- Experience in plant electrical and mechanical maintenance and/or plant maintenance surveillance, and/or mechanical utilities, and/or stationary engineer.
- Basic knowledge and experience operating and maintaining a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment such as pumps, valves, and flow controls associated with heating, air conditioners, water supply, sewage treatment, and related operating systems and utilities. Experience using hand tools and power tools of the trade such as grinder, torque wrenches, micrometers, pneumatic tools, presses, and shears.
- Basic skills and knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act, American Water Work Association (AWWA) and application of ES&H laws and regulations.
- Basic written and computer skills necessary to complete work orders, time reporting and training.
- Effective customer service and communication skills necessary to effectively interact with clients in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work scheduled shift work (day, swing, owl) as well as emergency overtime work and weekends. Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and protection equipment. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Drivers License and ability to travel and work at Site 300 in Tracy, California.

Desired Qualifications
- Certified backflow license.
- State of California Certification as a Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and/or Waste-Water Treatment Operator.
- Navy / Coast Guard / Merchant Marine shipboard systems training.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidiomycosis).

The Laboratory performs a variety of work, including some that may fall under Davis Bacon Act requirements. When work scope falls under this Act, the Laboratory complies with the prevailing wage requirements.
