The Raytheon Missile and Defense's (RMD) Mechanical Product Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Product Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Six Sigma principles. MPTs capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation.
The Antenna Systems Department designs some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. The Antenna Systems Department is seeking motivated Air Defense Sensors Section Leader with experience in integrated antenna and radar design. The Section Leader will team with the Department Manager in the execution of MPT and RMS Engineering goals. As the leader for the section you will need to lead large, diverse teams of approximately 15-20 engineers by providing highly skilled Mechanical Engineering design services across all program phases.
The Section Leader performs direct line management activities and provides leadership for the team. These activities include technical oversight of programs, technical development of people, training, performance management and resource allocation. The successful candidate will perform day-to-day management of the section with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement. Management duties include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Candidates will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide technical expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities. The candidate will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance and recognition. Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, optimizing resource utilization and interviewing applicants.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in overall engineering experience in mechanical design, preferably in design of antenna and radar systems used in land based, military and ruggedized applications
- Demonstrated industry experience with either radar architecture or electronics systems
- Prior leadership roles (frontline or project leader)
- Experience in military applications and environments
- Six Sigma Specialist certified
- Demonstrated team player, with excellent collaboration and mentoring skill
- Advocate for process improvement (eg CMMI, R6S), team builder, and able to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal resources.
- Masters of Science in an Engineering discipline
- Familiarity with Engineering Labor Forecasting (ELF)
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Demonstrated excellence in past work performance
- Knowledge of CAD and CAD software: Pro/E CREO
- Active Secret (or higher) Security clearance
- Familiarity with Performance Development Process
- Experience in empowering employees, leading and motivating teams, and fostering collaboration
- Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
- Strong communication, interpersonal and decision making skills
