What Your Job Will Be Like:



We are seeking an R&D Manager to lead a diverse team in Department 7225 in execution of current responsibilities and also to identify and guide the team into innovative strategic areas providing support across all Stockpile Systems. Department 7225 is responsible for Mission Critical Stockpile Systems and ND Integration and Engineering activities including management of Building 809 Laboratory Operations, Risk Informed Stockpile Evaluation, Pantex Program Management, Cross-Cut Multi-Weapon Systems Leadership, Transportation Integration, and partners with ND Modernization, ND Sustainment, ND Technical Maturation, Pantex, Weapons Evaluation Test Lab (WETL), Surety Analysis & Engineering, Weapons Response Groups, LANL, LLNL, and the Chief Engineers Office for Nuclear Weapons (CENW). This role is a great opportunity to develop strategic and value-added activities across Stockpile Systems, including the W88 ALT-370 and B61-12 transitioning systems.



On any given day you will be called on to:





+ Lead the development of and manage cross-cutting S&T work supporting weapon technical basis across multiple Stockpile systems



+ Support your Team Lead in management of Building 809 operations with Stockpile Systems, Use Control, and A&E teams



+ Lead execution of Risk-Informed Stockpile Evaluation across both NM and CA weapon systems



+ Innovate Pantex complex support activities and partner with Pantex TriLabs teams for various Stockpile systems activities, including Weapon Response and Surety Engineering



+ Interface with Center 6600 Transportation teams for SGT and MGT activities



+ Create trust-based relationships amongst Department 7225 personnel, Stockpile Systems, Pantex partners, and S&T organizations



+ Communicate effectively and support requirements execution for Stockpile Systems and various Nuclear Weapons Complex collaborators and customers









Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in relevant STEM discipline plus eight (8) or more years of experience, or equivalent:



+ Experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.







+ 3-5 years’ experience in technical leadership in Nuclear Deterrence or National Security programs



+ Experience in delivering products and/or services to internal and/or external customers and stakeholders



+ Experience leading technical teams in dynamic environments



+ Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level or DOD Top Secret security clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ At least 2 years of managerial experience and 5 years of ND technical leadership



+ Demonstrated experience in systems and/or component analysis, product design/development/production, stockpile evaluation, experimental and/or modeling & simulation, materials analysis, or other activities applied to nuclear weapons



+ Demonstrated experience leading teams with complex technical deliverables



+ Experience in design, set up, and working in high-rigor mechanical/electrical laboratories with WP&C requirements



+ Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and customer service skills



+ Demonstrated ability to deliver results and effectively lead/guide teams, mentor and support the success of others



+ Demonstrated experience successfully leading and executing technical projects and/or leading teams in a fast-moving, dynamic, and sometimes ambiguous environment



+ Demonstrated ability to build strong, trust-based teaming relationships with teams across organizations (ND3, Facilities, Security, ES&H, NSE sites)

Department 7225, Nuclear Weapon System Engineering & Integration, is an integral part of the New Mexico Stockpile Systems organization (7220) and plays a critical role in the execution of our Nuclear Deterrence (ND) mission. Department 7225 is responsible for Mission Critical Stockpile Systems and ND Integration and Engineering activities including management of Laboratory Operations, Risk Informed Stockpile Evaluation, Pantex Program Management, Cross-Cut Multi-Weapon Systems Leadership, Transportation Integration, and interfacing to mission computing partners for the SNL Nuclear Deterrence community. Our 7225 team partners with ND Modernization, ND Sustainment, ND Technical Maturation, Pantex, Weapons Evaluation Test Lab (WETL), Surety Analysis & Engineering, Weapons Response Groups, LANL, LLNL, and the Chief Engineers Office for Nuclear Weapons (CENW). Department 7225 uses System Engineering tools, methodologies, and processes to execute strategic and tactical Integration and engineering activities on behalf of ND Stockpile, Modernization, Sustainment, and Technical Maturation programs.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
