Overview:

Veeco Instruments is currently seeking a skilled and experienced working Manager of Software Engineering to lead software engineering, with emphasis on product development activities, for our MOCVD product line located in Somerset, NJ.  Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, this role provides technical and project leadership for multiple and complex product development efforts with a “hands-on” and “lead by example” style. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for development and test team members
  • Development using C++, C# and/or VB.NET
  • Design and support complex PC-based software systems
  • Design intuitive user interfaces based on user feedback - Identify and use other 3rd party software components as appropriate
  • Trace and modify existing code
  • Understand and troubleshoot large opto/electromechanical systems
  • Understand, create and troubleshoot multi-threaded and COM applications
  • Creation of test cases that address software scenarios, system testing, regression testing, negative testing, error or defect retest, performance monitoring and usability
  • Working with testers, developers, and operations to help reproduce and solve field and internal issues in the application, network, and environment
  • Conducting test cases on: large hardware tools and simulation of hardware tools
  • Assist in automatic installers to release the software
  • Scripting and executing load tests and analyzing results
  • Verify release notes with applicable test cases
  • Install and configure re-creations of the software production environments
  • Review software documentation to assure accuracy
  • Work in an Agile/SCRUM environment using supporting tools
  • Attend software status and release readiness meetings  
  • Must be able to travel 5% domestically/internationally

Requirements

Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering and 8+ years of professional experience or a Master’s degree and 6+ years designing, testing and optimizing software, firmware and hardware. Experience with developing in C++, C# and/or VB.Net and experience with WIN 7/10 is required. Must have 2+ years of people management experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of software design and network architectures
  • Experience with building and/or testing software desired
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices (e.g. version control, issue tracking, automated testing, code review, agile practices)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Detail oriented  
  • Semi-conductor experience is a plus
  • Can anticipate and resolve roadblocks and expertly manage customer expectations
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and demonstrates and promotes a strong sense of urgency in the engineering function
  • A dynamic leader, capable of implementing a vision for the software engineering team
  • Embodies the essential characteristics of integrity, creativity, competitiveness, accountability, and teamwork
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects within specified time and budgetary restrictions, while maintaining a strategic vision regarding future issues
