Our quality engineering team enables the mass creation of impossible products as a partner in the development of Apple's world-class designs. They spearhead the development and implementation of rigorous coating specific quality systems across the supply chain to ensure Apple products meet the highest of standards.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in hands-on development of PVD, DLC and CVD coatings in Mass Production Environment
  • Self-motivated and Highly data driven
  • Solid background in Statistical tools & design of experiments
  • Experience establishing and validating Color, Cosmetic and Reliability requirements for decorative and functional coatings
  • Expertise using advanced analytical techniques (such as XRF, SEM, EDS, FTIR, TEM, & XPS) to characterize coating quality, troubleshoot failure modes and drive corrective actions
  • Experience with the development and evaluation of metrology systems
  • Experience developing and implementing process quality plans, supplier quality audits
  • Working knowledge of mechanical quality and reliability concepts, supplier management, and general manufacturing operations.
  • Project management experience. Ability to work with large teams and suppliers to drive decisions in a dynamic environment.

Description

In this highly visible and collaborative role, they work closely with Apple's Industrial Design, Product Design & Reliability Engineering teams to define engineering specifications for highly cosmetic and functional coatings. Drive best-in-class overseas equipment and manufacturing partners to implement thorough quality systems from development to mass production. Collaborate with Coating process experts to enable high throughput next-generation processes at the highest yields by leading comprehensive surface science investigations, process capability studies, process validation and data driven problem-solving through the development cycle.
Key Responsibilities will include:
Define Coating quality standards and specifications for color, cosmetic and reliability
Enable new coating design intent by evaluating Coating risks at the conceptual phase
Develop & Implement Coating quality Plans at Manufacturing sites encompassing color, cosmetic and reliability requirements
Develop, qualify and deploy coating specific metrology and reliability test methods at manufacturing sites
Facilitate IQC/OQC alignment and drive quality audits across supply chain to ensure coating quality standards are clearly communicated and enforced.
Serve as project lead, working closely with overseas Apple partners to develop and drive suppliers.
Enable process development through process capability, variability studies and Statistically designed experiments to achieve target yields
Enable technical problem solving through coating characterization, root cause and failure analyses.
Develop coating specifications with Industrial Design, Product Design, Reliability Teams for mass production through data collection, analysis and validation of process limits to balance target cost and yields.
Present and communicate quality status, yields and risks to cross-functional teams and leadership throughout the development cycle.
Collaborate with process experts and Apple overseas partners to close gaps and achieve target yields for mass production.
Travel internationally to supplier sites. Up to 30% travel expected.

Education & Experience

BS, MS in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
