We have multiple openings for a Materials Science and Engineering Post College Appointees. You will execute design, assembly, characterization, and experiments of novel micro-scale 3D printed materials and neural interfaces. Project opportunities may include other additional research projects areas with potentially different technical goals and include design and assembly of specialized biomedical devices, rheology of materials, precision motions control, and data analysis. These positions are in the Advanced Materials and Processing Technologies Group and/or Engineered Biological Interfaces Group of the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Conduct research and development of micro-scale 3D printed or microfabricated structures.
- Characterize materials and structures fabricated from various micro-scale 3D printing or microfabrication technologies.
- Assemble components of neural interfaces, including optical waveguides.
- Conduct research and development of new biocompatible materials.
- Organize, analyze, and present data from experiments.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to accomplish research goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Recent Bachelors or Masters degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (within two years of application).
- Experience with one or more of the following areas: 3D printing technologies, SEM, optical microscopy, metrology of micro-scale structures and optical assemblies.
- Broad general background in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering demonstrated by coursework, training, and/or work experience.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
- Initiative, interpersonal skills, creativity, and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with photocurable polymers, thermal post-processing of materials, and rheology.
- Experience with microfabrication and post-fabrication processing of microfabricated materials.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

This is a one-year Post College Appointee with the possibility of extension to a maximum of two years. Eligible candidates are recent graduates within two years of the month of the degree at the time of the employment offer.
