The panel process and optics (PPO) team design, develop the groundbreaking display cell technologies to support Apple's phenomenal iPhone, iPad and Mac displays. This includes a total optimization & integration of display material, optics, process (including equipment) to deliver outstanding display optical & mechanical performance. The team features a collaborative and hands-on environment that cultivates engineering perfection, creativity, and innovation. We are looking for a Materials Specialist at all levels, with a proven track record of materials innovation and solid understanding of materials science and engineering. A successful candidate will work with a multi-functional team and external vendors to develop new optical films for our next-generation products.

Key Qualifications

  • 2+ years of proven experience specializing in liquid crystals, dyes, and curable polymers
  • Basic understanding of fundamental display principles, display materials and their reliability under different stress conditions
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience of electro-optical characterization techniques
  • Experience in reliability stress characterization, accelerated lifetime models and litests
  • Strong design of experiments (DOE) and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) experience is a plus
  • Hands-on experience in display or device fabrication is a plus
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Capable to articulate the thought process clearly and concisely
  • Solid collaboration and leadership skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel (international and domestic)

Description
- Scope, explore, and deliver innovative materials & process solutions for better display performances
- Lead materials evaluation efforts including benchmarking and characterizing key electro-optical and reliability performances
- Develop reliability test specifications and procedures, lead failure analysis and use accurate methodology to identify root cause of failures
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams and vendors to develop and implement mitigations for performance and reliability risks
- Establish process baseline and work closely with new suppliers for reliable mass production to meet the quality and capacity requirements for Apple's future products

Education & Experience

M.S. degree or Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Optics, or Material Science & Engineering
