JOB PURPOSE:

The position will be filled at varying levels (level I - principal, based on the incumbent's knowledge, skills and abilities). The incumbent performs mechanical engineering services on a wide variety of projects with varying levels of complexity in the hydroelectric industry. This includes conventional engineering design, and advanced analysis and design; determining methodology and depth. Prepares technical plans and specs of moderate complexity for procurement. Leads interdisciplinary teams to solve problems. Recommends solutions and approaches for unique pump applications, hydraulics, and hydro generation. Supports plant operations in troubleshooting and resolving issues. Supports Asset Management through development of equipment strategies, maintenance and renewal plans. Supports small to large sized projects and maintenance activities. See attached career level guide for specific job duties of varying levels.

# EF % of Time Job Functions

1. EF Field Support: Provide plant operations and maintenance support by answering questions, reviewing options and providing alternatives. Based on level of incumbent may receive technical guidance from other engineers.

 

2. EF Engineering Design: Perform varying levels of complexity in engineering design, analysis and calculations as assigned determining the methodology and depth needed. Based on level of incumbent, may mentor or lead other team members in proper execution of technical activities.   Provide input to team leads in approach and execution of technical activities to support feasibility studies. Peer review work and provide guidance to other level engineers. Based on level of incumbent, receives technical guidance and/or refers to training & textbooks.

 

3. EF Asset Management: Performs condition assessments, develops asset strategies.

 

4. EF Plans & Specifications: Prepare technical plans and specifications of moderate complexity for procurement.

 

5. EF Codes & Standards: Interpret codes and standards including nuances of application, identifying different possible interpretations. Contribute to the development of company technical standards.

 

6. EF Project Management: May develop budgets, schedules scope and procurement documents for varying levels of projects and/or programs. May act as a project manager.

 

7. EF Training: Identify and attend training to maintain and learn new skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

 

The position will be filled at varying levels based on an applicant's qualifications, skills and abilities. Level I $59,280-$74,100; II $69,600 - $87,000; III $80,720 - $100,900; Senior $86,800 - $127,800; Principal $112,080 - $140,100

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: The qualifications listed below are representative of those required, but reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Post-Secondary Education:                      

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited university, or the equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Based on vary levels of hire, an EI, EIT or, PE in the State of Washington strongly preferred (required for principal level).

 

Experience:

At a minimum, level I candidates should have up to three years of relevant experience performing mechanical engineering design in a paid, volunteer or college environment. Level III candidates will have six years of progressively responsible experience performing mechanical engineering with a minimum of five (5) years engineering experience in power generation or similar industrial work. At the highest level (principal), the candidate will have 20 years’ experience with a minimum of 10 years in hydro power engineering and a technical specialty in one or more of the following: Turbine-Generator, HVAC, Fluid Mechanics, SolidWorks, Maintenance Engineering, or as a Generalist (machine design calculations, root cause analysis, system optimization or expert knowledge of systems/equipment).
