Microelectronic/Semiconductor Technologist (Experienced)

We are seeking a Microelectronics/Semiconductor Technologist to support semiconductor device testing, assembly and laboratory operations. You will assume a key role within our high performing optoelectronics team, working closely with compound semiconductor device scientists and engineers on lasers, integrated photonics, infrared devices, and novel sensors.

On any given day, you will be asked to:

+ Develop, build, modify, repair, and maintain a wide variety of electronic, and optical test hardware
+ Use, troubleshoot and maintain semiconductor fabrication and packaging equipment such as ovens, dicing saws, wirebonders, flip-chip bonders, 3-D printers, cryogenic and vacuum systems.
+ Perform data acquisition and analysis using electronic, probe, and fiber/free-space optical setups.
+ Understand and execute designs from schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, and related specifications.
+ Machine custom fixtures using equipment such as a mill and lathe.
+ Build and maintain laboratory infrastructure such as pressure systems, temperature systems, and instrument shelving and wiring.
+ Assemble and package custom micro-devices using pick and place, wire-bonding, flip-chip bonding, and epoxy.
+ Maintain and write operating manuals, ES&H protocols, calibration records, and inventories for equipment, chemicals, and lasers.

Required:

+ Associates degree in a science or Engineering field or 3 years of relevant experience.
+ Experience testing semiconductor devices.
+ Familiarity with laboratory test equipment and measurement techniques.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Desired:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.
+ 5 or more years relevant experience.
+ Familiarity with optical test equipment/setups and measurement techniques.
+ Familiarity with circuit board layout and assembly
+ Experience coding or using test automation software such as Matlab, Python, C#, or Lab-View.
+ Semiconductor fabrication, clean-room, or assembly experience.
+ Previous machining experience
+ Use or understanding of mask/reticle design software
+ Active security clearance

Department Description:

The III-V Optoelectronics Department develops compound semiconductor devices, photonics, and microsystems for national security applications including high-performance computing, communications, renewable energy, sensing and imaging. As part of Sandia's Microsystems Science, Technology and Components Center, we research, design, fabricate, prototype, test and deliver novel RF and photonics devices, including lasers, photonic integrated circuits, and sensors. We focus on R&D of high performance technology platforms and customized microsystems.

We leverage state-of-the-art materials and fabrication capabilities within the Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) cleanroom complex to serve a broad mix of internal and external customers. Core capabilities include:

+ Optical, optoelectronic and electronic modeling and simulation
+ Epitaxial design, materials growth (MOCVD/MBE) and materials characterization
+ Design, microfabrication and testing of III-V photonic devices, RF devices and photonic integrated circuits
+ Heterogeneous microsystem integration and prototyping
+ High-speed and harsh-environment optoelectronics, and device reliability
