Job Description

The Intelligence, Surveillances, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) is seeking researcher engineers and scientists with experience in Radar systems engineering and development of enhanced and new radar capabilities. The ideal candidate will understand key performance drivers and characteristics of the end-to-end radar system, and be interested in radar architecture development and design. The position requires interest and knowledge of complex system of system interactions.

Job Duties

Specific duties may include performing sensor and architecture modeling; systems trade study analysis; signal processing algorithm definition and development; modeling and simulation (M&S) of sensors and systems at low, medium and high fidelity; and system performance prediction.

ISRD’s projects focus on advanced signal processing, adaptive sensor technologies, advanced algorithms, and modeling & simulation. Applications include airborne radar, electronic warfare, and undersea systems.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar related field.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar related field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar related field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar related field and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May, 2020
  • Relevant experience in systems engineering or systems analysis
  • Interest in and exposure to radar, signal processing, or complex systems
  • M&S experience in MATLAB, Mathematica, C, Python or similar languages,
  • Exposure to CAMEO, Rhapsody, DOORs, or other SysML or UML software programs
  • Familiarity with the various phases of Systems Engineering life cycle
  • Good problem solving ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing U.S. security clearance
  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar related field
  • Exposure to requirements generation and system evaluation activities
  • Experience summarizing technical research for non-technical audiences
  • Prior experience with effects based signals analysis and/or physics-based modeling and simulation is highly desired

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
