Job Description

The Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking an experienced Model-Based Systems Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia to work in the Systems Analysis Branch (SAB) of the Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL). The mission of SAB is to apply systems engineering and decision analysis to real world systems. SAB includes analysis of system performance in operational environments and system of systems interactions. SAB conducts both quantitative and qualitative analysis, including the application of systems engineering processes, techniques, and tools as well as performing analysis of alternatives and trade space exploration. The individual in this position will be a technical contributor who will apply MBSE and other systems engineering and analysis techniques to some of the nation’s most interesting, important and challenging problems. Responsibilities include:

  • Application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including work in the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and
  • Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)
  • MBSE tool configuration and model maintenance
  • Requirements analysis
  • System architecture definition, analysis and validation
  • Risk analysis
  • Test plan definition
  • Systems performance analysis
  • Systems of systems interactions analysis
  • Trade space exploration
  • Analysis of alternatives
  • Analysis of test results
  • System performance prediction
  • Systems integration

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills, including numerical modeling and scripting skills
  • At least 3 years experience practicing systems engineering with both real-world applications and formal training directly related to
  • implementing MBSE on complex problems, or equivalent experience in a doctoral program
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are critical as work often informs decisions at the top-levels of the military and intelligence communities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Existing S, TS, or TS/SCI clearance
  • Experience using Cameo Systems Modeler and associated plug-ins from No Magic, Inc.
  • Experience with software engineering and design
  • OMG-Certified Systems Modeling Professional TM (OCSMPTM) Certification (any level)
  • Experience or expertise in one or more of the following: (1) aerospace systems, (2) EO/IR or radar for air and ground based applications, (3) electronic warfare techniques, (4) current and future kill chains, and (5) intelligence gathering and analysis

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
