We are seeking a National Security Systems Research Analyst (R&D S&E, Systems Research and Analysis) to join our dynamic team!

As a National Security Systems Research Analyst, you will use your strong technical foundation to help develop strategies, priorities, and requirements for technology solutions. You will collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to provide decision insight to customers on a wide range of complex multi-domain national security and nuclear enterprise issues such as:





+ Nuclear deterrence



+ Cybersecurity



+ Chemical/Biological/Radiological/Nuclear (CBRN) defense, security, and nonproliferation



+ Climate change risk and infrastructure resilience



+ Emerging threats and mission areas



+ Enterprise, laboratory operations





In this job, you will have the opportunity to work on a portfolio of projects that might cover a variety of these topics. At this time, our priority is to hire an analyst who has the experience and interest to work on nuclear deterrence.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Understand customer needs and analyze problems in the national security domain, to enable connectivity between operational organizations and our research and development teams



+ Formally define problems, formulate requirements, develop technical approaches, gather information and apply analytical and modeling methods to design and objectively evaluate proposed solutions



+ Team across different subject areas to conduct innovative research and analysis on emerging technology trends and national security needs



+ Present results as appropriate at open conferences or classified meetings



+ Effectively communicate complex system issues and ideas in a concise way that enables action, to customers and partners at all levels of government within the United States as well as internationally



+ Travel and meet with sponsors to support execution of programs











Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least five years of experience; or Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least one year of experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and engineering or scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development.



+ Ability to travel as needed (may require occasional to frequent travel depending on project)



+ Ability to acquire a DOE Q security clearance



+ Ability to acquire and hold an SCI-level clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Ph.D in engineering (e.g., electrical, mechanical, chemical, materials), physical science (e.g., physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences), computer science or cybersecurity, or other degree requiring significant qualitative and quantitative analysis



+ Additional years of relevant experience



+ Expertise and experience in systems analysis discipline knowledge



+ Structuring and solving complex problems



+ Elicitation process



+ Risk and decision science analysis tools, theory, and methods for a range of data types to include sparse data and large data sets



+ Understanding of the policy landscape



+ Development and/or application of software modeling, simulation, signal analysis, and visualization tools and methods



+ Knowledge of and application of AI/ML methods and tools







+ Evidence of professional service to the community, such as service on program committees, workshop organization, and/or editorial or review work





About Our Team:



Department 8118 is part of a five department System Analysis and Engineering Group (8110) in the Homeland Security and Defense Systems Center. Work in 8110 is focused on a broad range of topics in national security including nuclear weapons, homeland security, and transportation energy. Nuclear weapons work includes stockpile studies, surety systems analysis, cost estimation, and future stockpile planning. Homeland security work includes analyses, simulations, and prototype technology deployments which address defense against biological, nuclear, chemical, and radiological terrorism; planning and training for disaster management; and emerging cybersecurity threats. Transportation energy analyses enable technology, policy and regulatory decisions focused on vehicle fleet composition and fuel alternatives. In these complex problem areas, staff in 8100 combine technical depth, cross-domain breadth, and multiple analytic disciplines to deliver products that inform decision makers and facilitate evaluation of options and tradeoffs.

Security Clearance:



Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
