MITRE's Networking and Infrastructure Technical Center is currently looking for a Network Systems Engineer to explore these and other challenging questions as we work to improve our sponsors' networks. Take this opportunity to join a collaborative and innovative team working with state of the art technology solving difficult networking problems.


Key Functions:


-Provide network security engineering support to a variety of sponsor and research based projects including design, development, integration, and implementation activities in support of network systems.
-Solve complex networking problems in areas such as IP routing/switching, data center infrastructure, network operations, network security capabilities, and more.
-Interact with MITRE and sponsor teams to present technical solutions and make recommendations on the preferred way forward.


The candidate might expect to:

- Conduct hands-on lab analysis to solve technical issues, consider potential integration opportunities, and understand performance/scalability issues.
- Work closely with industry to understand best practices and maintain a pulse of innovations in the networking and network security area.
- Perform hands-on assessments of capabilities in the networking and network security market to determine how these capabilities may work with existing sponsor infrastructure.
- Develop written products and technical reports that highlight findings and recommendations.
- Develop prototypes that demonstrate novel solutions to sponsor problems

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in one of the following disciplines, Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering and 3 years related experience. The candidate will demonstrate advanced principles, theories, concepts comparable to those obtained with a master's degree.

Required Skills:


- Strong interest in networks, network security, and related technologies

- Basic understanding of networks and fundamental layer 3 and 4 protocols (e.g. IP, TCP, UDP, etc)

- Experience in programming methods/languages such as Shell Scripting, Perl, Python, Ruby, C/C++, Java

- Excellent analytical skills

- Strong written and verbal communications skills


Preferred Qualifications:


- Basic understanding of network protocols such as Domain Name Service (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), IP Routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP)

- Understanding of common security capabilities such as firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and full packet capture

- Experience configuring IP routing protocols


This position will require obtaining a Secret security clearance.
