We have multiple openings for Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineering Associates to provide training and technical leadership in the development and maintenance of training programs/data acquisition systems, image reconstruction, and other software used by the NDE Group and their customers. You will have responsibilities to meet the Groups technical objectives may require working alternate work shifts, and/or weekends in order to meet operational needs. These positions are in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) within the Engineering Directorate.These positions will be filled at either the 337.1 or 339.2 level, depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities outlined below will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.Essential Duties
- Apply innovative technical expertise to the design, development, and maintenance of complex NDE software and systems, including planning projects, selecting commercial software products, determining solutions, and generating instructions.
- Utilize commercial and LLNL developed software to obtain data and generate detailed image reconstruction.
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness while working and adhering to written safety documents.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to NDE staff and customers, making decisions regularly using a high degree of independent discretion and judgment, while under general supervision.
- Collaborate with a broad-spectrum of personnel inside and outside the work group on both an individual and team basis.
- Maintain awareness of classification and security issues and assure that work is executed in conformance with requirements for information protection.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition, at the 339.2 Level
- Provide highly advanced technical support to engineers/scientists in solving highly complex technical problems for various projects within various programs.
- Analyze and determine most efficient, expeditious, and cost-effective methods to source and/or develop software programs.
- Monitor performance required to meet programmatic deliverable milestones and lead corrective actions where necessary.Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and significant experience in a related technical discipline.
- Knowledge and experience using/working with the development and maintenance of complex data acquisition systems, image reconstruction, and other NDE software.
- Experience working with Digital Radiography and Computed Tomography (DRCT) software.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including well developed interpersonal skills necessary to work with and train a diverse set of customers, partners, and NDE staff.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and oversee teams while clearly articulating interpretation of guidance documents, design intent, and other requirements.
- Ability to work alternate shifts/weekends and travel as needed to complete assigned tasks.In Addition, at the 339.2 Level
- Experience in installation, modification, configuration and highly complex troubleshooting of various NDE software or hardware systems, working independently, under minimal direction.
- Experience developing/testing/maintaining highly complex software or hardware systems and diagnostics.
- Extensive experience working with Digital Radiography and Computed Tomography (DRCT) software.Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in areas with materials, equipment, or technologies associated with high explosives.
- Experience working in areas with x-ray radiation generating devices and radioactive materials.
- Experience with NDE training, qualification, certification procedures.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
