You could be the highly motivated individual to be part of our diverse Nuclear Facilities team. You will support the Annular Core Research Reactor and the Critical Experiments Reactor. On any given day, you may be called on to work in a high teaming environment to:

  • Perform Reactor Engineer/Operator duties, which includes operating a reactor as a certified Reactor Operator
  • Help prepare and handle experiment packages which may involve crane operations.
  • Maintain and repair reactor systems and associated support equipment which may involve forklift operations
  • Support experiment plan development and execution at nuclear facilities, radiological facilities, and reactors
  • Work with engineers to develop, design, and install new systems components or modify existing components
  • Write or modify operating and maintenance procedures or work packages
  • Ensure that facility operations align with the framework of a strong nuclear safety culture and implement effective operational decision-making
  • Support the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility safety basis documents
  • Perform causal analysis and develop corrective actions for identified deficiencies
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations for professional organizations and user groups

Department Description:

Nuclear Facilities Operations, Department, (1381), provides operational management of nuclear reactor facilities within TA-V. These facilities include the Annular Core Research Reactor Facility and the Sandia Pulsed Reactor Facility. These nuclear facilities are used in the conduct of experiments for a wide variety of programmatic customers. Detailed facility descriptions are captured in the documented safety analysis for each nuclear facility.

Requirements

Required:

  • You will have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific, technical or engineering discipline
  • Experience at a nuclear reactor facility in operations/maintenance
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Desired:

  • Current or previous qualifications as a Reactor Operator
  • Experience maintaining and repairing Reactor Instrumentation and Control Systems
  • Familiarity with DOE nuclear facility requirements
  • Ability to complete complex assignments with minimal management oversight
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current DOE security clearance

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
