Open Architecture Researcher (Business Strategy & Analysis) -- ELSYS

Job Description

The Open Architecture Researcher, with a focus on business strategy & analysis in the Applied Embedded Systems Division (AES), supports the development and implementation of modular open architectures for military and industrial systems by building sponsor relationships, managing OA programs, and improving OA development processes. AES is predominantly focused on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems, with a focus on open-systems architectures. These embedded systems are used for Electronic Warfare (EW), industrial controls, communications, avionics, in-flight entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other applications. This position would be part of the Open Systems Development Branch (OSDB). OSDB enables the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) across the DoD through modeling Open Architecture (OA) reference systems, developing open systems, and standards development.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Develop program and technical requirements supporting hardware-focused open architectures applied research and development
  • Collaborate with sponsors, engineering teams, and project directors to ensure project deliverables and requirements are met
  • Actively interface with open architecture consortium teams, including developing plans relating to consortium governance, data sharing, configuration management, and organizational recommendations/structure
  • Conduct business case research, analysis, and tools to develop open architecture programs including marketing strategy development and leverage multiple media platforms
  • Support the development, integration, and test of MOSA-based systems, models, and hardware
  • Serve as a technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include keeping up-to-date on industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future updates
  • Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to potential sponsors
  • Monitor cost and schedule to track project expenses, including invoice processing, expense reports, and budget tracking
  • Provide open architecture consortium governance documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree required with one or both in Business Administration, Data Analysis, Mathematics or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree required with one or both in Business Administration, Data Analysis, Mathematics or related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Master's degree required with one or both in Business Administration, Data Analysis, Mathematics or related field.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree required with one or both in Business Administration, Data Analysis, Mathematics or related field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree required with one or both in Business Administration, Data Analysis, Mathematics or related field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Master's degree required with one or both in Business Administration, Data Analysis, Mathematics or related field and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience providing DoD project management support to include financial planning, resource allocation, and contracting expertise (e.g. knowledgeable on DoD contract modifications, CLIN realignments, period of performance extensions, etc.)
  • Experience in developing subcontracting agreements related to open architectures
  • Experience interacting with financial experts on multiple projects and developing high-level financial outlooks for those projects.
  • Experience working directly with sponsor technical and managerial representatives
  • Experience developing cost estimates utilizing various software tools
  • Experience conducting technical and/or financial presentations and communicating technical information to a non-technical audience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing data analytics to inform risk management activities
  • Experience working with equipment or systems for airborne applications, ground vehicle applications, or other industrial and military applications
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized teams and/or projects
  • Active SECRET clearance

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be U.S Citizens.
