Multiple Tenure-Track Faculty Positions


The George Mason University Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research (SEOR), within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites applications for multiple tenure-track or tenured faculty positions beginning Fall 2020. Senior candidates with established records of outstanding research and excellent teaching will be eligible for tenured Associate Professor or Professor positions. Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; develop an independent, externally funded research program; advise students at all levels; participate in all aspects of the department’s mission; and serve the profession.

 

About the Department:

The Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research has 22 full-time faculty members with wide-ranging research interests and a strong commitment to teaching. The department offers an ABET-accredited BS in Systems Engineering, MS degrees in both Operations Research and Systems Engineering, and a PhD in Systems Engineering and Operations Research. The department participates in the school-wide MS in Data Analytics Engineering. The SEOR programs are ranked 36th nationally in their category in US News and World Report.

The Volgenau School of Engineering at George Mason University is a fast-growing force for innovation in research and education, with approximately 250 full-time faculty. In conjunction with Amazon’s decision to establish a second headquarters in Northern Virginia, the Commonwealth of Virginia announced a multi-year plan to invest in the growth of degree programs in computing, and George Mason University has committed to accelerate its plans to grow its capacity in computing and high-tech fields. Among the exciting initiatives being undertaken by the university are the launch of the Institute for Digital InnovAtion, a university think tank and incubator to serve the digital economy, and the expansion of its Arlington Campus with a planned 400,000 square foot Digital InnovAtion Building. These initiatives reflect hundreds of millions of dollars in new investment by Mason that will rapidly elevate Mason’s already leading national position in computing and related areas.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have received a PhD in Operations Research, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field by the start date of the position, and should have demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in research, and a commitment to high-quality teaching. Senior candidates must have established records of outstanding research, teaching, and experience commensurate with their rank.

Preferred Qualifications:

We are seeking exceptional candidates in all areas of systems engineering and operations research. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong foundations in model-based systems engineering, data-driven decision making, optimization, stochastic modeling, and analytics, with a focus in emerging areas of applications such as health care, energy, sustainability, financial engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems. Candidates with strong foundations in systems engineering methodologies, such as model-based systems engineering, systems architectures, and systems integration are particularly encouraged to apply. Similarly, candidates who can develop strong research programs in data intensive application areas within the context of systems engineering or operations research are particularly encouraged to apply.
