Job Description

GTRI is seeking Operations Management Support Professionals to provide support to sponsored research projects and internal operations research projects. The role provides operations management support to a team of fifteen to twenty (15-20) multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists and to a team of five to ten (5-10) GTRI operations employees of varying backgrounds and expertise to achieve project objectives and milestones. The research associate will work alongside the research project director to assure all project management requirements are met and provide project management guidance to the project director concerning processes and procedures that would be beneficial to the project.

This role may require direct interface with sponsor representatives occasionally so experience working in a DoD project environment is preferred. The research associate will also be required to work directly with the Interim GTRI Operations Officer to assure the operations portfolio of projects in coordinated and being performed according to PMI PMBOK standards for project management. The research associate will direct to tasking of other project management professionals with expertise in process improvement and compliance, business process alignment with Georgia Tech operations, and risk management methodology.

Job Duties

  • When assigned by the GTRI COO, serve as an active member of the operations project management team coordinating the efforts of other project managers
  • Document and analyze complex user business processes and requirements; identify solutions including modification of business process
  • Assist other project managers by implementing standard project management tools and processes as appropriate for the projects.
    Assist GTRI COO with:
    • Operational metrics development
    • Development of remediation and improvement plans
    • Improve operational processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency
    • Develop plans for required organizational changes
    • Manage activities related to GTRI facilitates planning
  • Provide assistance to operations projects, as requested. Example services include:
    • SOW/PWS review
    • Facilitation of budget allocation and tracking mechanisms
    • Facilitation/documentation of risk analysis and mitigation planning
    • Subcontracting support: SOW/Spec review, quotation and negotiation support, (subs) project management process audits, red team/tiger team participation
  • Manage and understand the specific requirements of DOD projects related to contracting and execution
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Associate

  • A Masters degree in Business, Policy, Technology related, Administration, or a similar field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Business, Policy, Technology related, Administration, or a similar field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Business, Policy, Technology related, Administration, or a similar field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 10 years of program management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • 15 years of program management experience
  • At least one of the following certifications is required for consideration:
    • PMP,
    • CSM,
    • Lean6Sigma,
    • CM, or
    • A similarly related professional certification

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

-Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
