Job Description

The Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking an experienced Operations Research Analyst in Atlanta, Georgia to work in the Systems Analysis Branch (SAB) of the Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL). The mission of SAB is to apply systems engineering and decision analysis to real world systems. SAB includes analysis of system performance in operational environments and system of systems interactions. SAB conducts both quantitative and qualitative analysis, including the application of systems engineering processes, techniques, and tools as well as performing analysis of alternatives and trade space exploration. The individual in this position will apply mathematics, statistics, operations research methods, computer simulation, and other systems engineering and analysis techniques to some of the nation’s most interesting, important and challenging problems. Responsibilities include:

  • Analysis of alternatives
  • Systems of systems interactions analysis
  • Systems performance analysis
  • Requirements analysis
  • Risk analysis
  • Trade space exploration
  • Analysis of test results
  • System performance prediction

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills, including numerical modeling, statistical computing and scripting skills
  • At least 4 years experience practicing operations analysis on complex, real-world problems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are critical as work often informs decisions at the top-levels of the military and intelligence communities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing TS/SCI clearance
  • Experience using Matlab (TM)
  • Experience or expertise in one or more of the following: (1) aerospace systems, (2) EO/IR or radar for air and ground based applications, (3) electronic warfare techniques, (4) current and future kill chains, and (5) intelligence gathering and analysis.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
