LTD Research Engineers conduct or participate in multidisciplinary research and pathfinding initiatives as well as collaborate with process and module engineers, process integrators, design and/or hardware and packaging engineers in the design, development, and utilization of productivity enhancement TCAD tools and other EDA systems software. They determine TCAD user needs, advise on matters that affect software and hardware systems as well as design and develop flows/scripts to analyze and test design methodologies for new devices and architectures including 3D structures. They respond to customer requests or events as they occur. LTD Software Research Engineers are advocates of applying design methodologies to help execute projects effectively and successfully with high quality.


  • Collaborate with Components Research (CR) as well as external partners to explore new device and architecture candidates appropriate for pathfinding as well as work with the competitive analysis team to better understand the competitive landscape and the technology definition team to smoothly coordinate the transition from CR to pathfinding to technology definition.

  • Use TCAD and other EDA tools, flows/scripts and methodologies to assess impact of potential process feature and module candidates, including new devices and architectures including 3D structures, and their impact on RO-based PPA and cost.

  • Specify and plan materials, equipment, training, and supplies needed for the pathfinding, technology definition and competitive analysis teams to complete various TCAD assessments relevant during pathfinding phase of process technology development.

  • Evaluate best-in-class TCAD and other EDA vendor solutions, services, integrations required to conduct needed TCAD assessments relevant during pathfinding phase of process technology development.

  • Improve TCAD and other EDA tools, flows/scripts and methodology efficiencies as well as identify and pursue enhancements, modifications, and future capabilities to achieve pathfinding, technology definition and competitive analysis teams goals.

  • Provide TCAD and other EDA tools, flows/scripts and methodologies tier-1 (direct) support to the broader pathfinding, technology definition and competitive analysis teams as well as be the bridge or middle-men to vendor-provided or tier-2 support.

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience would be obtained through a combination of prior education level classes, and current level school classes, projects, research, and relevant previous job and internship experience.


  • Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. in Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in the TCAD, EDA and semiconductor industries with focus on semiconductor devices
  • 5+ years of TCAD and EDA research, development and technical support experience

Work Model for this Role

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site.
