Position Information:

This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.

Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you looking for an exciting and unique opportunity to support technical research in areas of physics, atmospheric science, and engineering? We are seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Appointee to join our dynamic team to develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges!

This job involves working with multi-disciplinary team of Sandia staff in researching remote sensing of lightning and bright meteors called “bolides”. The successful candidate will use their strong analytical skills for interpreting and presenting collected data.

On any given day, your job responsibilities may include:

+ Develop and improve analytical tools for understanding lightning and bolide observations made by remote sensing systems

+ Provide guidance on analysis of large data sets

+ Present results of research at suitable meetings, workshops, and conferences

+ Publish the results in high impact journals

Qualifications We Require:

+ PhD acquired within the last 3 years', in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field

+ Ability to attain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Proficiency with varied communication methods, including oral presentation, preparation of high-impact visual presentations, written reports, and the ability to clearly and concisely communicate scientific and technical information at a level tailored the audience

+ Proven experience with Machine Learning, AI methods, and signal processing in the analysis of large data sets

+ Proven experience with analysis of large data sets

+ Interest in exploring fundamental phenomena of lightning and or small asteroids impacting Earth’s atmosphere

+ Familiarity with Python, Matlab, and Microsoft Office Suite

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0

The Phenomenology and Signatures group (6771) researches and develops new science applications, models, and technologies to solve the Nation's counter-proliferation challenges. Security Clearance:
