ADP Small Business Services is hiring a Principal Developer for the NextGen platform team with demonstrated experience in mixed footprint of private datacenter assets (private cloud) and public cloud (AWS and Azure).  You will be part of the platform team driving the change and technical innovation for client facing cloud-based applications.  You will be leading and guiding the design and implementation of DevOps solutions including CICD, security, resiliency, monitoring and alerting.

 

In this role, you will be a part of a cross-skilled team working with technologies such as C#, NodeJS, MongoDB, Docker and NGINX, set out to design and develop new innovative products for Small Businesses. This team is customer-oriented, feedback-oriented, and adapts fast. You will build a state-of-the-art tech stack with cutting-edge CI and CD processes. You will design, configure, implement, and support build/deploy pipelines (CI/CD, Git, GitLab).

 

To thrive in this role, you have experience with a combination of software development and DevOps experiences as well as cloud development. You have production-level experience in Docker, ECS, ECR, EKS and Fargate and experience with monolith and micro service architectures.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Here's what you can expect on a typical day:

  • Scrums. You'll start every day with a daily standup, working with your team to understand responsibilities, identify issues, and communicate coding priorities. Our software engineers make critical design decisions and collaborate with team members in the process.
  • Coding. Working in two-week sprints, you must keep up with deadlines and coding standard, automate the build, testing, deployment via Azure DevOps or Jenkins pipeline. Design, develop, and automate infrastructure and environment provisioning and continuous Integration & deployment solution on hybrid cloud. Partner with development and operation team by providing infrastructure as code, guidance and best practices from the early phases of product development, including the development of software and processes to assist developers with infrastructure-as code and workflows (such as build, release and deployment automation).
  • Variety of work. There is no typical day. You could be solving tough problems such as fault tolerance, reliability, scalability, availability, throttling, queueing, and more, then working with teams in other locations one minute, meeting with leadership to review initiatives the next. Work with the development and operation teams to gather, define and document technical and functional requirements for new and existing digital assets. Collaborate with security team to implement and automate the security polices and audit trails.

Collaborate with SRE / Ops team to Implement monitoring and alerting solution to Identify security and performance issues at multiple layers of deployment for applications. Champion the best practices for build and release processes among development, operation (SRE) and infrastructure (GETs) team.
  • Learning. You're always learning new technologies and processes with tools such as Udemy and other training courses, conferences, and operating with a "learn as you go" approach with a willingness to figure out new ways of doing things. If you're truly stuck on something, you can collaborate with a teammate to get it resolved quickly.
  • Challenges. You're comfortable working on products with tech we haven't used before. Inevitable challenges will arise, and we'll rely on you to look for a solution.
  • Experience. You have 12+ years of experience in relevant skills gained and developed in the same or similar role.

 

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

  • You'll have a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent.
  • Prior experience in the following will give you extra comfort in this role to be successful:
    • API development
    • AWS programming/automation (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK)
    • SRE tools: Jira/WebEx/Dynatrace/PagerDuty/ITSM integration/Splunk/Prometheus/Grafana
    • CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Maven, Sonar, Artifactory)
    • Container orchestration -- k8s (Kubernetes native development)
    • Web tier knowledge (load balancers/Layer7/Apache/Nginx)
    • Windows/Linux/Unix system administration
    • C#/Java/JavaScript/NodeJS/Python programming 
    • Windows PowerShell, Lunix and Shell Scripting
    • Virtualization (VMWare, Z/OS)
