Job Description

GTRI is seeking a Program Management Support Professional (PMSP) to provide project management (PM) support for a portfolio of engineering projects. The successful candidate will be able to provide project management support to a fifteen to twenty (20-25) member team of multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists to achieve project objectives and milestones. A technical project director is assigned to each project and will retain the final project authority. The PMSP will work alongside of the project director to assure all project management requirements are met and provide project management guidance to the project director concerning processes and procedures that would be beneficial to the project. This role may require direct interface with sponsor representatives occasionally so experience working in a DoD project environment is preferred.

Job Duties

  • When assigned by the PMSO Director, serve as an active member of the project management team working with GTRI PDs on projects
  • Document and analyze complex user business processes and requirements; identify solutions including modification of the business process
  • Coordinate with other PMSPs within PMSO to provide cross-project consistency of practice and transfer of lessons learned and best practices
  • Assist PD/PIs by implementing standard project management tools and processes as appropriate for the project
  • Assist PMSO Director with:
    • Project management compliance metrics
    • Development of remediation and improvement plans
  • Provide assistance to projects, as requested. Example services include:
    • SOW/PWS review
    • Facilitation of budget allocation and tracking mechanisms
    • Facilitation/documentation of risk analysis and mitigation planning
    • Subcontracting support: SOW/Spec review, quotation and negotiation support, (subs) project management process audits, red team/tiger team participation
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Daily tasks consist of 90% program management support and 10% sponsor interface. A successful candidate will be able to develop or contribute to the management portion of research and development proposals. The candidate must be resourceful, take initiative, and manage autonomy with expectations.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Business, Policy, Technology, Administration, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Business, Policy, Technology, Administration, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Business, Policy, Technology, Administration, or a related field of study.

Senior Research Associate

  • A Masters degree in Business, Policy, Technology, Administration, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Business, Policy, Technology, Administration, or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Business, Policy, Technology, Administration, or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of program management or cost account management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 or more years working in a direct support role on a DOD sponsored project
  • PMP, CSM, Lean6Sigma, CM, or other related professional certification

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
