We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher toperform research in theoretical physics in the area of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). You will play a major role in our new research direction on intrinsic heavy flavors in the proton wavefunction.Emphasis will be on code development and calculations to make this research possible. Your work will be in theory development and calculations but you will also work with experimentalists at LLNL as well as help establish collaborations with groups at other institutions planning experiments to advance this physics.This position is in the Nuclear Data & Theory Group.

Essential Duties
- Pursue research in perturbative QCD with an emphasis on intrinsic charm in the proton.
- Pursue research on open heavy flavor and quarkonium production in p+p/p+A and e+p/e+A collisions.
- Engage with experimental collaborations.
- Make predictions for intrinsic charm signals at the Electron Ion Collider.
- Pursue independent research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internal and external to LLNL.
- Report research results through publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.
- Contribute to proposal submissions within the Nuclear Data and Theory group, including DOE Topical Collaborations in Nuclear Theory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Ph.D. in physics or related field.
- Experience conducting research in perturbative QCD, particularly in heavy flavor physics.
- Experience developing methods of performing perturbative QCD calculations.
- Experience with computer programming.
- Ability to perform independent research and find innovative solutions to scientific and technical problems.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively present and explain results of scientific research.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed literature with experience presenting research results to a large audience.
- Demonstrated skills in statistical analysis applied to uncertainty quantification.

Security Clearance: None required.

Note: This is a 2year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 3 years. Eligible candidates are those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
