Job Description

GTRIs Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research (CIPHER) Lab seeks a research Student Assistant to start in the fall of 2020. The selected candidate will work with the Quantum Systems Division on developing and maintaining a magnetic anomaly measurement system and developing a new atomic magnetometer. The student will be responsible for performing standard lab tasks, such as development of lab electronics, designing hardware mounts and test-fixtures, testing and characterizing custom pieces of control equipment, and the computer programming, modeling, and simulation required as part of those tasks.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic lab skills (using oscilloscopes, lasers, optical set-ups, electronics)
  • Ability to use and develop data acquisition routines, e.g. using LabVIEW, python, or other programming language.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to technical and non-technical team members
  • Secret security clearance

Hours per Week

Up to 10-20 hours per week

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
