The Computational Science Department at Berkeley Lab has an opening for a Quantum Network Modeling Postdoctoral Scholar. This position will be part of a research team focused on developing models for improving quantum transducers, an essential component for quantum networking. The successful candidate will contribute to theory development, implementation and execution of methods and simulation software to model quantum transducers, primarily in Python and C/C++. Integrating simulation models and deep reinforcement learning, this position will contribute to the development of enhanced quantum networking capabilities.
What You Will Do:
• Contribute to the development and execution of methods and simulation software to model quantum transducers.
• Apply models to emulate decoherence and noise in quantum devices.
• Apply deep reinforcement learning techniques to quantum data related to quantum transducers.
• Participate in theory development to enhance quantum networking capabilities with artificial intelligence.
• Publish results in peer reviewed journals and conferences.
What is Required:
• PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience writing and executing programs with Python, C++, and Mathematica.
• Relevant publication record and demonstration of proficient written and oral presentation of scientific results.
• Knowledge of quantum technology or machine learning related to the responsibilities above.
• Strong ability to collaborate with scientists in different fields and the ability to work independently.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with unsupervised machine learning algorithms.
• Experience modeling Markovian and non-Markovian quantum dynamics.
• Experience with high-performance computing.
The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.
• This is a full-time, 2 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
• This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
• Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
• This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
• This position will be remote initially, but limited to individuals residing in the United States tentatively until September 2021 due to COVID-19. Once the Bay Area shelter-in-place restrictions are lifted, work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
