Applications are invited for the role(s) of Quantum Enterprise Fellow in the School of Physics and School of Electrical Engineering at The University of Bristol.

The Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre is offering a number of 12-month fellowships (beginning on the 1st of December 2018) aimed at supporting the development and transition of lab-based quantum related technology into start-ups and spin-outs. The programme is strongly geared towards implementing; building and developing a business with a view to exiting the programme with an investable business proposition or early stage company.

As a Quantum Enterprise Fellow, you will be part of a one-year cohort-based programme incorporating taught courses covering aspects of systems thinking and design, enterprise and entrepreneurship. As a Fellow your business will be based upon a demonstrated technology you have the right to commercialise. Fellows receive extensive coaching and mentorship throughout the programme as well as desk space, a travel and consumables budget and many opportunities to network and pitch to potential investors.

This programme is suitable for early career scientists or graduates who have a lab-based quantum related technology they wish to commercialise and the ambition to be an entrepreneur. The programme is open to applications from across the globe and we are supportive of applications from members of the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme.

The Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre (QTEC) is a high profile and unique training centre, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) with a mission to accelerate the growth of quantum-based industry in the UK. The centre is part of the University of Bristol’s multi-disciplinary Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (QET Labs), and is partnered with Cranfield University's Bettany Centre for Entrepreneurship, creating a world-leading Centre to train entrepreneurially-minded, quantum systems engineers, ready for a career in the emerging quantum technology industry.

The closing date for applications is 23:59 on Tuesday 31st July 2018.

In addition to our standard University application you are asked to complete an additional application form. You are asked to upload this with your online application.

Main Job Purpose

The QTEC programme supports postgraduate or equivalent qualified individuals through the Quantum Enterprise Fellowship Programme. Throughout the programme, fellows will develop skills in systems thinking and design, and business and enterprise, allowing them to become future quantum technology industry leaders and entrepreneurs who will take quantum science discoveries out of the lab and into society.

Fellows will learn about the technology journey from conception, protection of IP rights, assessing markets and customer needs to learning about investment, progressing proof-of-concept technology demonstrators, business start-up/license agreements and how to manage a company. You will receive mentorship from a resident enterprise developer, mentors and from entrepreneurs in residence.

The course is strongly geared towards implementing; building and developing a business based upon an early stage functional technology which the fellow has the right and drive to work with.
