R&D CAD Engineer-Custom Integrated Circuits (Experienced)

Your responsibilities will center around the design of custom integrated circuits, with responsibilities ranging from supporting the MESA design community to defining new CAE methodologies\.

On any given day, your responsibilities could include:

+ Lead/support next generation CAE tool selections
+ Provide continuous improvement of design and layout methodologies\- Provide CAE tool support \(scripting, new user setup, library management, etc\)
+ Provide third party CAE tool point\-of\-contact support \(bug reporting, issue resolution, etc\)
+ Drive physical design auto\-place route \(APR\) methodology
+ Drive final verification \(layout vs schematic \(LVS\), design rule check \(DRC\), etc\) processes and tools


+ You have a bachelor's degree in a computer science or engineering discipline, plus 5 years of related experience
+ You have experience supporting analog, digital, or mixed signal CAE tool environments
+ You bring general knowledge and understanding of application\-specific integrated circuit \(ASIC\) or field programmable gate array \(FPGA\) design flows
+ Your background includes CAE tool experience, specifically schematic capture, SPICE simulation, Verilog/VHDL simulation, and/or physical layout and verification tools, and the associated file formats used by these tools
+ You can obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance


Ideally, your background should also include:

+ Advanced degree in Computer Science
+ Experience with CAE tools from these tool providers: Synopsys, Cadence, and Mentor Graphics
+ Experience with custom library development, process design kit \(PDK\) development, and handling external IC Foundry collateral
+ Experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting and X\-Windows
+ Experience with one or more of the following languages: Perl, Python, Ruby, SKILL
+ Experience with a version control system, such as Perforce
+ Project management or leadership and vendor/customer interface experience
+ Active DOE Q\-level security clearance

Department Description:

The NW ASIC Products & CAD/Layout department focuses on the realization and delivery of digital, analog, and mixed signal application specific integrated circuits \(ASICs\) to the nuclear weapons community and on providing IC Layout Design and CAD and Compute resources to Microsystems Engineering and Sciences Applications \(MESA\)\. The department maintains expertise on the full NW ASIC product realization process beginning with customer engagement/requirements through product delivery and coordinates all the efforts from design, fabrication, packaging, test, and qualification to realize and ensure a Mark Quality ASIC product delivery\. Also, we provide Layout Design capabilities, CAE/CAD engineering, and Compute resources for NW and SPP customers across MESA\.

We work in close partnership with our internal design teams to develop high\-reliability, high\-consequence products for government applications inside the Nuclear Deterrent arena and beyond\. Customers include DOE weapon systems, satellite systems, the intelligence community, Army, Air Force, and commercial industry\. Mission success is assured by employing well\-adapted design methodologies and state of the art CAD and CAE tools\. There is exciting new work and a corresponding need for additional staff\.

We are actively developing high\-performance focal plane array read\-out ICs, trusted processors, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, ultra\-low noise/power analog electronics, non\-volatile memories, and field programmable gate array \(FPGA\) products targeting our internal, radiation\-hardened CMOS IC technology and external, state of the art foundries\. In addition, the department works closely with our in\-house radiation\-hardened CMOS technology group to develop and maintain state of the art radiation\-hardened CMOS research, design, and production capabilities\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
