We are seeking a R&D Computer Engineer



An opportunity exists for an embedded software engineer to join the development program for Integrated Surety Architecture \- Safeguards Transporter Compatibility Retrofit \(ISA\-SCR\) and the Mobile Guardian Transporter \(MGT\) projects\. These projects ensure the safety and security of sensitive nuclear materials while in transit\. This position involves high consequence software development on current and next\-generation electronics systems\.



Responsibilities



+ Develop and test embedded \(C/C\+\+\) software for micro\-processor based electronics systems

+ Participate in the qualification test planning and execution for these systems

+ Work within a multi\-disciplinary team to ensure the development, test, and integration of new capabilities into the fleet of Safeguards Transporters \(SGTs\) and next\-generation Mobile Guardian Transporters \(MGT\)

+ Work in an exciting and fast\-paced environment where you can make a visible impact on the national security posture of the United States\.



Required:



+ Requires a Bachelors and Masters degree in relevant STEM discipline plus two or more years experience; or Bachelor's and Doctorate in relevant STEM discipline\. The requirement for a STEM Masters degree can be waived for candidates with a Bachelors in a relevant STEM discipline and engineering or scientific experience\.



Desired:



+ Demonstrated expertise in embedded software development in C and/or C\+\+ on microprocessor based electronic systems\.

+ A team player capable of handling multiple assignments, with strong customer focus and excellent oral and written communication skills\.

+ 2 years of relevant work experience\.

+ Active DOE Q\-level or DOD Top Secret security clearance\.

+ Familiarity with Printed Circuit Board \(PCB\) design and test

+ Experience in embedded firmware \(HDL\) development on Xilinx FPGA\-based electronic systems\.

+ Experience with digital, RF, and/or satellite communications systems\.

+ Ability and interest to learn new technologies\.

+ Occasional travel is necessary\.



Department Description:



The Communications and Electrical Systems Technology Department \(6622\) provides Command, Control and Communications software and hardware support to DOE's Office of Secure Transportation \(OST\) in addition to other NNSA customers involved in the transportation of critical assets\. These activities involve the integration of COTS and customized communication system solutions in mobile and fixed site applications to support the Sandia National Laboratories nuclear weapon community in efforts spanning DOE/DOD strategic weapons shipment, storage, and site security by detecting, assessing, and rapidly responding to known, evolving, and emerging design basis threats\. The department's subject matter experts contribute to solutions involving embedded command and control via terrestrial and wired networks, provide engineering analysis and design, thus helping to ensure the security of our nation's critical strategic assets and facilities\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
