What Your Job Will Be Like:





We are seeking a Software Developer to join our innovative, interdisciplinary team!



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Design, develop, and maintain modern software systems used for treaty verification and nuclear material monitoring systems



+ Develop and maintain software engineering practices as our portfolio of software projects grows



+ Work closely with nuclear engineers, electrical engineers, and computer engineers on system research, development, and deployment phases of projects





This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.





Qualifications We Require:





+ Master's degree in a STEM field plus one year of experience, PhD in a STEM field, or Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus five years' experience



+ Experience with Java or other object-oriented languages



+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Experience creating GUIs in Java



+ Proficiency in C



+ Experience with relational database design, usage, and normalization



+ Experience collaborating on software development with a team using repositories



+ Understanding of software design patterns



+ Experience with Python



+ Proven written and oral communication skills

The Nuclear Verification Department (6831) is making the world a safer place by helping the US Government to reduce nuclear threats. We give policymakers technical options for verifying declared nuclear warheads and materials to enable effective arms control treaties and agreements. We research, develop, evaluate, and field new technologies that increase our government's capability to verify treaties and manage nuclear materials. Our diverse work includes technical development of radiation detectors, information barriers, sensors, tags, seals, information management and protection, and other nuclear security technologies, often with ultra-low-power requirements. Our programs are performed with scientists and engineers in the Global Security & Cooperation Center (6800), across Sandia, with other national laboratories and sites, and internationally.
