What Your Job Will Be Like:



We are seeking a UX/UI developer to support our Emergency Response Software Development Team (ERSDT). The ERSDT develops and maintains custom innovative software tools and solutions for the Department of Energy's Nuclear Incident Response Program (NIRP) which provides research and technical solutions, expert analysis, and highly trained emergency response professionals to support the Federal Government's response to an accident or act of terrorism involving radiological, chemical, or biological material.



As a software engineer specializing in user-experience/user-interface you will design and develop user interfaces for a variety of software applications currently in development by the ERSDT including both standalone and web-based applications. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with scientific and technical software applications and direct interaction with scientists, engineers, and technical staff.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Work with the lead developer and software designer to gather requirements, design, develop and test high-reliability web applications; and provide end user support for a number of applications used throughout Sandia, other agencies, and internationally



+ Design and develop user interfaces for web applications by setting expectations and feature priorities throughout the development life cycle; determining design methodologies and tool sets; completing programming using languages and software products; designing and conducting tests; troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms



+ Partner to build software solutions that fit the scope requirements



+ Work effectively in an Agile (or adapted Agile) software development environment and manage software application code using version control and problem tracking software



+ Participate in development activities to be done in compliance with application development, database, and middleware guidelines and standards



+ Create QA and user documentation to support the code development effort





This position is eligible for telecommuting or virtual work and the selected applicant may be located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.



Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or relevant field plus 1year of experience



+ Experience developing graphical user interfaces for business or technical applications with a specialty in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design



+ Experience developing user interfaces using React, Angular, JavaScript or other front-end user interface language



+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level clearance or equivalent along with additional clearances which may require a polygraph test





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Ability to explore and grasp new products and their design



+ Skill for writing reusable components and libraries



+ Possess a strong dedication to positive teaming dynamic, strong written and verbal skills, detail oriented with a keen focus on customer service



+ Experience developing user interfaces using Java Swing or Java FX user interfaces to help support legacy Java Desktop applications



+ Familiarity with source code control systems, specifically Git



+ Familiarity with the Eclipse IDE for Java development



+ Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio™ and Visual Studio Code™ for or JavaScript, HTML, C#, and general Web Design



+ Familiarity with developing applications using Cloud services



+ Experience with scientific application development

Security Clearance:



Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
