R&D, Electrical Engineer (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team that is designing, developing, and delivering advanced components, subsystems, and systems for national defense programs. Your responsibilities will range from conceptual design, detailed design, analysis, being responsible for fabrication of hardware, defining and executing qualification/testing plans, and field support.

The successful candidate will work in a team environment with opportunities to acquire increasing levels of responsibility.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design power distribution, sensor, monitoring, and control systems;
+ Perform hands-on testing and trouble-shooting of electrical systems;
+ Develop documentation of a given design and give technical presentations to peers/managers and customers;
+ Develop a system-level understanding of the systems being developed and maintain records for long-term support of fielded systems.
+ Participate in a multi-disciplinary system safety analysis.
+ Perform electrical systems safety analysis and document the results.

**The job usually involves being a member of a small team, although the ability to work autonomously will be important. Travel to supplier or customer facilities will be required, sometimes on relatively short notice.**


+ Bachelors and Masters degree in a relevant STEM field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
+ Proven experience in designing and developing electrical power distribution and industrial control systems and 208 480 volt electrical power distribution system;
+ Experience with the National Electrical Code, NFPA, and other accepted standards in electrical power distribution system;
+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.


+ Experience performing system hazard analyses, and/or safety instrumented system analysis;
+ Experience with electronics, digital design, software development;
+ Experience working effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment;
+ Critical thinking, synthesis and problem-solving skills;
+ Ability to prioritize, lead, and complete tasks within appropriate scope and timeframe;
+ Strong communication, partnership, and people skills;
+ Willingness to support a variety of projects, including matrixed assignments outside of the department.

Department Description:

The Exploratory Systems Technologies Department is an engineering organization with concept development, design, prototyping, testing, and fielding capabilities that are used to develop and apply new technologies and address needs across a broad scope of applications primarily related to national defense. While we support a number of organizations, the largest program in the department is the Explosives Destruction System (EDS) being conducted for the US Army developing systems to destroy chemical agent munitions.

Security Clearance:
