We are seeking an Electrical Engineer who will team with others to support the development of safe processes for production operations.

On any given day you may be called on to perform the following:

+ Characterizing and mitigating sources of unintended electrical and mechanical energy introduced during the production process or internal to the product or system
+ Using modeling, simulation, testing and analysis to determine how components and systems respond probabilistically to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) or other electrical insults, quantify the Electromagnetic (EM) field leakage into effective Faraday cages, and evaluate how alternating and direct current (AC/DC) from external sources insult the product or system
+ Working closely with peer SMEs at Sandia National Laboratories and at other Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) sites
+ Documenting technical justifications and rationale for the product/system responses to the electrical and mechanical insults
+ Occasional travel to other related NSE locations to support our mission and partner needs

Required:

+ Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering plus 5 years experience; or advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering ; or at least 13 years of relevant experience in lieu of degrees
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance with Sigma 15

Desired:

+ An advanced technical degree in electrical engineering or related field
+ Proven leadership and project management skills, in particular, the ability to exercise resourcefulness and initiative in approaching and dealing with ambiguity
+ You have experience in how sophisticated systems interact and respond to external stimuli
+ A dedication to support our nuclear mission
+ You are able to communicate and interact with multiple levels of personnel and partners in the Nuclear Security Enterprise
+ You actively craft networks that transcend organizational boundaries to creatively generate team consensus and solve complex problems

Department Description:

The primary mission of the Weapon Analysis Department is to provide Sandia executive management, system and component designers, independent assessors, and other customers with performance, risk, and safety analyses using state-of-the-art model-based tools, test data, and expert knowledge. Our results help to assure the safety of nuclear weapons during assembly & disassembly operations, transportation activities, and other potential planned and accident environments. An intimate knowledge of nuclear weapon safety and a science-based approach involving analysis, modeling/simulation and experimental data provide the technical basis for meeting the needs of our customers.

Security Clearance:
