Organization 05497, Directed Energy Missions, is actively seeking a motivated and experienced R&D Electrical Engineer to join our team! As the selected candidate, this position primarily consists of crafting and delivering compact pulsed power systems which drive High Power Microwave (HPM) sources.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design groundbreaking compact pulse power systems
+ Execute tests and direct test execution
+ Analyze and communicate test results (presentations and written reports) to stakeholders
+ Craft the future through advancing state of the art compact pulsed power and applications of the technology
+ Write project proposals and lead projects
+ Expand the departments reach into new mission spaces
+ Deliver on commitments within budget and schedule
+ Maintain and grow relationships with new and existing customers, and participate in professional societies and conferences
+ Assist in other areas within the DE Enterprise


+ A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant STEM field, plus 1 year of related experience; or a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant STEM field; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job
+ Experience with:

- High voltage (100s of kV) pulsed power design
- Circuit modeling
- Testing and qualification of pulsed power designs
- Data analysis
+ The ability to travel occasionally
+ The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance


+ Experience with the following:

- Collaborating with DoD organizations
- Project management
- Developing new capacitor and high voltage switch designs
- Team building and program management skills
+ Knowledge of current groundbreaking advancement in directed energy
+ A self-starter able to adapt to a fast-paced, DoD customer-focused operation with emphasis on meeting deliverables
+ Proven ability to work in a team-focused environment
+ Strong documentation skills (for assistance in record keeping, documentation, and ES&H compliance) and attention to detail
+ Strong troubleshooting skills
+ An active DOE Q-level security clearance

Department Description:

The Directed Energy Missions Department (05497) is a high-performance, multi-disciplinary team dedicated to pushing the frontiers of technology. Our primary areas of interest include high-power electromagnetic systems, compact pulsed power systems, radio frequency sources, antennas, and electronic effects phenomena. We execute research and development to support mission execution of Directed Energy technologies and associated sources, sensors, and components. Work environments range from laboratory work in state-of-the-art facilities to field work at local and remote test sites. Work products range from studies and analyses to delivery of beyond-state-of-the-art hardware to support our customer base to move Directed Energy technologies to the war-fighter. This department works seamlessly with the Directed Energy Applications department (5498) and the Directed Energy Assessments department (5499). These three departments form a larger team called the Directed Energy Enterprise.
