If so, we highly encourage you to explore this new opportunity within Sandia’s Reentry Controllers Department.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced electrical engineer to join a high performing technical team in the design, development, testing, qualification, and delivery of components associated with Reentry System missile interface control for the SLBM and ICBM legs of the nuclear weapons stockpile triad. These components meet demanding performance specifications, offer extremely high reliability, and meet stringent survivability requirements. As the selected candidate, you will be an integral member of the technical team and you will lead specific technical and programmatic efforts to realize NW components by working closely with the component/support organizations, system customers, and production agency counterparts. You will be expected to utilize effective interpersonal, teaming, and communication skills to own and manage issues inherent to the development, qualification, production, and sustainment of a high consequence product.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work with a tightly integrated team to support current controller related development, qualification, and production activities.

+ Test and/or analyze digital and analog circuits to verify product functionality against requirements.

+ Proactively support existing relationships both internally and externally.

+ Satisfy customers and partners by delivering on commitments and managing expectations.

+ Develop and/or execute electrical functional testing, acceptance and tester operations

+ Plan and coordinate qualification tests (environmental, radiation, etc.)

+ Lead and/or participate on complex collaborative projects in support of new components.

+ Exercise your critical thinking skills to resolve design and production related issues

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a relevant STEM discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

+ Five years’ engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development

+ Travel as required to execute and support program requirements.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Previous Nuclear Weapon System or Component experience

+ Experience with the SNL NW Product Realization Process

+ Demonstrated experience upholding Sandia’s NW quality principles.

+ Experience supporting production at the Kansas City National Security Campus

+ Experience with design and test of digital or analog circuits

+ Experience with Printed Circuit Board design

+ Experience with environmental testing (thermal, shock, vibration, ESD, etc.)

+ Experience and/or education in the design, development and qualification of electrical systems, components, circuits, and modules

+ Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, demonstrating initiative and leadership

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills

+ Desire to grow in both technical and programmatic leadership roles.

+ Active Q or TS Security Clearance.

About Our Team:

The Reentry Controllers Department 5355 is responsible for the design, development, and support of current and future arming and fuzing subsystem controllers for the SLBM and ICBM legs of the nuclear weapons stockpile triad. The department is currently focused on the development or production of the MC5001 Missile Interface and Controller Module (MICM) for the W88 ALT 370, the MC5052 Missile Interface and Controller Module (MICM) for the Mk21 Arming and Fuzing Assembly (AFA), and the Mk4B W76-1/-2 Unique Identifier (UID). The department is responsible for coordinating, leveraging, and managing the development, qualification, and production efforts for all three components. Essential capabilities include controller design and analysis, radiation hardened electronics design, technology evaluation, subsystem design, test development, product realization, and qualification.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
