R&D Electrical Engineer - Functional Qualification (Experienced)

We are seeking a R&D Electrical Engineer to join the W88 ALT 370 Technical Basis and Qualification department to support the qualification program. Your activities will be diverse but will focus on execution of not only the W88 ALT 370 qualification testing, but future modernization programs as well.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead the electrical functional qualification team to develop an integrated technical basis for qualification
+ Interact with diverse set of customers and stakeholders
+ Partner with the W88 ALT 370 design team
+ Support program development activities
+ Support other activities developing and improving weapon system qualification concepts and activities
+ Lead the planning, execution and reporting of the required qualification testing, including analysis of functional data
+ Report to SNL management, customers and stakeholders on status, accomplishments and issues
+ Coordinate and support qualification activities to include assembly, testing, and troubleshooting

External interfaces include the National Nuclear Security Administration, DoD collaborators (USN), Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lockheed Martin Space, and the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) production plant.

Internal interfaces include various S&T, systems, component, design definition, test and evaluation, and computational simulation organizations.

Some travel will be required to support development, test and program needs.


+ Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related engineering field
+ One year of relevant experience


+ Strong analytical and laboratory experience
+ Experience with electrical functional testing;
+ Experience in various coding languages;
+ Experience in system engineering of complex systems;
+ Experience with NW component or system design, development or production;
+ Demonstrated ability to understand and work with a diverse set of technologies;
+ Ability to work independently and in a team environment showing initiative and leadership;
+ Motivation to work with a large integrated Systems team with broad interaction;
+ Must be able to apply strong interpersonal and communications skills working with a diverse team ranging from skilled laborers to PhD engineers/scientists;
+ Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technical work;
+ Ability to negotiate competing requirements to give the best system-level outcome;
+ Ability to discover, understand and articulate constraints, options, paths-forward;
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills;
+ Commitment to operational safety, security and quality;
+ Some travel will be required to support development, test and program needs.

Department Description:

The Weapons Program Integration Department provides program management and integration support to SNL Systems, Subsystem, and Component project teams and the NNSA Nuclear Weapons Complex (NWC).
