What Your Job Will Be Like:





We are seeking a team-oriented and dedicated electrical engineer to support a multidisciplinary team that specializes in the R&D of advanced embedded electronics architectures for space systems. The selected applicant will be responsible for working directly with the team to develop and mature ground breaking space mission enabling electronics architectures.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Be responsible for designing digital processing hardware, software, and systems



+ Collaborate with technical team members on the design of space electronics architectures



+ Drive design realization through full life cycle; conceptual designs, trade studies, detail designs, procedures, assembly, testing, and verification



+ Develop and test prototype and flight hardware and software



+ Use Xilinx FPGA design tools to implement, simulate, and test FPGA designs



+ Use High Level Synthesis (HLS) tools to convert algorithms and functions into FPGA IP cores



+ Write, test, and debug Linux device drivers for interfacing with FPGA IP cores



+ Write, test, and debug C and Python applications for interfacing with FPGA IP cores



+ Understand requirements from both flight software teams and hardware/electronics teams and bridge the gaps between the two



+ Understand (and possibly implement) image processing algorithms using HLS tools, targeting FPGAs



+ Qualify hardware, software, and procedures to ensure security and reliability of critical functionality.



+ Serve as a technical interface for customers and internal management



+ Document customer expectations, define performance requirements, and work with the technical team to assure all expectations and requirements are met



+ Find opportunities to drive innovative solutions and create the future of space



+ Minimum GPA of 3.2 for bachelor’s degree and 3.5 for master’s degree (or PhD, as applicable)





Due to the nature of this position, relocation near Albuquerque, NM is required.





Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant STEM field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience



+ Two (2) years’ experience designing and realizing electronic systems



+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Experience in the design, analysis, realization, and testing of electrical products



+ Proficiency in designing, implementing, and testing designs in Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices or microprocessor-based SoC devices



+ Familiarity with FPGA design tools and processes and High Level Synthesis tools and processes



+ Experience with programming and/or hardware descriptor languages, such as C++, Python, VHDL, or Verilog.



+ Experience with engineering software tools, such as MATLAB or LabView



+ Experience using and writing applications for Linux (embedded Linux is a plus)



+ Experience writing Linux device drivers



+ Experience with electrical systems for satellite payloads, and/or aerospace programs



+ Proven ability to interpret requirements and design hardware in compliance with electrical and mechanical specifications



+ Proven ability to test and debug hardware and software systems, and/or familiarity with test equipment such as high-speed oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.



+ Ability to collaborate with commercial or contracted suppliers to acquire hardware, software, or custom components procurement



+ Experience in designing digital and/or analog circuitry including sensors in a variety of technologies



+ Embedded electronic systems modeling and simulation experience



+ System level experience mapping performance and ICD requirements to embedded system instances



+ Familiarity with hardware and/or software requirements generation for verification, validation, and qualification



+ Possess a strong dedication to positive teaming dynamic, strong written and verbal skills, detail oriented with a keen focus on customer service



+ Demonstrated ability to work well in a diverse teaming environment



+ Interest in leading multidisciplinary technical teams at the system level



+ Active DOE Q and SCI security clearance or equivalent

The Emerging Flight Technologies department is responsible for advancing innovative flight sensing capability in our nation’s security interests. Efforts include:





+ Developing more resilient space electronic architectures. Moving traditional algorithms, which were designed to run on high-performance ground stations, to the flight system.



+ Developing novel opto-mechanical systems that reduce jitter, improve optical performance, and improve geolocation.



+ Advancing sensor mod/sim beyond just radiometry. Incorporating all aspects of the scene, collection segment, and post-processing to understand overarching architecture performance.

Security Clearance:



Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
