We need your help in exploring and developing innovative concepts and new technologies to meet challenging and diverse national security needs spanning across security systems, robotics, unmanned aerial systems, and transportation systems. Our department is looking for an Electrical Engineer who, on any given day, may be challenged to:

+ Design production level security sensor systems from PCB design through system level design, ensuring customer requirements are met
+ Research, develop, analyze, and test embedded systems, including custom circuit boards, microcontroller firmware, and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs)
+ Research/develop/analyze/test advanced and innovative sensor technologies
+ Design and conduct experiments to evaluate sensor technologies/system performance
+ Conduct environmental testing, qualification of development and production hardware
+ Document conducted research, development, and testing results
+ Participate in integration activities with other engineers and product realization teams

Ability to travel will be needed in this role.

Required:

+ An advance degree: PhD in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field plus 1 year of related experience; OR Masters degree, per above, plus 3 years related experience
+ Can obtain a DOE Q clearance with Sigma 15 caveat

Desired:

+ Experience in the following:

- Design and testing to include one or more of the following: analog and/or digital circuit design, RF system design, embedded system design, and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) effects on electronics
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with internal organizations and external production facilities and suppliers
- Software/firmware development
- Design of electronic systems using microcontrollers and/or FPGAs
- Writing technical reports and development of briefing materials
- Design and evaluation of high-rigor production printed circuit boards/electrical systems
- Design of circuits employing microcontrollers or FPGAs
- Design and use of wireless communication systems
- Modern software engineering design/development/testing
- Power electronics and understanding of electromagnetics
- Development of robotic systems and employment of artificial intelligence/machine learning
- Development and operation of manned and unmanned aircraft
- Reverse engineering
- Sensor design and characterization
- Qualification testing of systems for use in high consequence applications
+ Good interpersonal and oral communication skills
+ Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
+ Familiarity with development of specifications for components
+ Tools/Programs: C/C++, SPICE, LTSpice, MATLAB, LabVIEW, ModelSim, HDL, EAGLEPCB, Mentor Graphics, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum analyzers
+ Top-notch verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
+ Ability to thrive in a high-energy, collaborative, team focused environment
+ Currently holding an active security clearance; DOE Q or DOD TS

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
