R&D Electrical Surety Analyst (Early Career)

Organization 02934, Electrical Surety Analysis, is seeking an R&D Electrical Engineer to work on electromagnetics research and development, verification and validation of analytical and computational electromagnetic models, and analysis of sophisticated, high-consequence nuclear deterrence systems.

The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary team that analyzes a wide variety of electromagnetic problems. In this position, one will not only mature a deep technical understanding of electromagnetics, but also develop key skills in communication and multi-disciplinary collaboration. Minimal travel is required.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

+ Work on projects consisting of requirements consultation, analysis, and modeling to determine EM environments and predict system response
+ Support system and component design decisions
+ Analyze and design facility or system protection
+ Evaluate anomalous results due to electromagnetic environments

By joining this team, one will have mentorship and peer review from researchers in electromagnetic effects with opportunities to branch out into high voltage breakdown, magnetic components, and multi-physics modeling.


+ A Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM field
+ The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance


+ Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and documentation skills
+ Excellent technical writing skills and experience in publishing formal reports
+ A high level of success in both undergraduate and graduate programs
+ Experience and ability to tackle technical problems both analytically and computationally
+ Knowledge of Electromagnetic, RF, and analog circuit design, and reliability analysis or modeling
+ Experience with industry EM modeling tools (CST, COMSOL, ANSYS), circuit modeling tools (Mentor Graphics, Cadence), and computational and numerical analysis tools (Matlab, C++, Python, etc.)
+ Completed a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or pursuing an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Electrical Engineering
+ Undergraduate and graduate GPAs of 3.5 or higher

The Electrical Surety Analysis Department delivers electrical circuit and electromagnetic engineering, modeling, and analysis solutions focused on meeting our customers' safety, security, and reliability goals. We specialize in analysis of complex electrical system and component behavior to answer questions regarding performance, safety, sensitivity, aging, and environmental effects. Our analyses support challenging design or production goals and enhance the technical basis of current systems, and can be used to supplement existing prototyping, redesign, or trouble-shooting processes.
