R&D Electrical Systems Engineer (Experienced)

We are seeking an experienced R&D Systems Engineer to become part of our dynamic team. The selected candidate will be an authority in the development, qualification, and integration of next generation electronics systems in critical national security platforms, such as hypersonic glide bodies, nuclear weapons, and space payloads.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Develop trust-based partnerships with organizations internal and external to Sandia
+ Lead and listen to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and subject-matter specialists
+ Use engineering principles to conduct trade studies, release documentation, and realize product
+ Provide programmatic and technical status updates to SNL management and external partners

External partners include Department of Defense sponsors, the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Kansas City National Security Center (KCNSC) production plant, and other supply chain vendors.

Internal partners include various component, systems, design definition, test and evaluation, and computational simulation organizations.


+ A Bachelor's degree in a STEM Field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) plus 6 years experience; or a Masters degree in a STEM field plus 3 years experience
+ This position requires domestic travel
+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q security clearance


+ Knowledge and practice of formal product realization processes and procedures
+ Direct engineering experience with hypersonics, nuclear weapons, or space payloads
+ Experience in executing qualification and delivery of components
+ Previous working relationships with two or more of the external and internal partners listed above
+ Familiarity with delivering high difficulty systems, production, product development and qualification, testing and evaluation, modeling and simulation
+ Experience designing and/or producing micro-electronic products
+ Ability to work optimally with management
+ Strong written and oral communication skills
+ Ability to integrate into and work effectively across multiple technical teams
+ An active DOE Q security clearance; or other active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret

The RF & Electronics Systems Center (Center 5300) provides key electronics systems deliverables to a wide variety of nuclear weapons, space, intelligence and military programs across Sandia and the nation. The Advanced RF Systems group (5330) supports the Nations technology superiority strategies by delivering capabilities for electromagnetic spectral dominance, global highly-reliable communications, and novel advancements for future strength. We are a highly dynamic set of departments that cross-team to provide coordinated engineering systems solutions ranging from core research through prototype development and high-end, fielded products. The Electronic Systems Department (5337) provides sophisticated electrical hardware designs for strategic flight and ground systems, develops hardworking staff and partnerships to advance national capabilities, and engages with partners to link communities and expertise for sophisticated electronic components.

Security Clearance:
