What Your Job Will Be Like:



We are seeking an experienced R&D Electromechanical Technologist to join the Engineering Services Program and Operation's team. This position will support critical programs contributing to national security with a wide range of roles and responsibilities. This individual in this role will assist the Engineering Services Environmental Test team with the operation and execution of testing for electromechanical fabrications, components, and assemblies.



You will be responsible for assisting in the development and refinement of test set-ups and testing operations on vibration, shock, thermal environment chambers and centrifuges following protocols and procedures which are jointly with our systems engineering customers. The selected candidate also will be responsible for the actual hands-on activity level work defined in the procedures. Test Assemblies can be complex and contain a wide variety of hazards including radioactive, pressurized, and/or explosive components. The successful candidate will be trained on specific test equipment and will require additional ES&H courses to work with potentially hazardous items.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Execute tests with laboratory equipment, such as vibration and shock tables, thermal equipment/chambers, centrifuges, mass properties, drop table and resonant plate.



+ Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems



+ Develop, update and use test plans, operating instructions, schematics and procedures



+ Participate in safety and technical reviews



+ Monitor experiments, make and record observations, support documentation efforts, including preparing information for scientific and engineering reports and publications



+ Conduct data analysis and recommend modifications to components or test procedures to meet desired specifications.





Qualifications We Require:





+ High school diploma plus five years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience



+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance



+ Selected applicants will be required to take a Job Placement Assessment before beginning the job to ensure that they can perform the essential physical requirements, with or without accommodations





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Technical degree in relevant field



+ Ability to work well in a team focused environment as well as work in a self-directed manner



+ Ability to use hand and power tools, material handling equipment, cranes and forklifts, and specialty test equipment



+ Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, work planning processes, ES&H guidelines and operating procedures



+ Experience with Nuclear Weapons component design, testing or manufacturing



+ Ability to travel and off-site work to other DOE and DoD locations is required



+ Familiar with working in a secure facility



+ Experience working with classified and hazardous materials/hardware.



+ Active Q security clearance or equivalent

Organization 8525, Engineering Services Program & Operations leads many key capabilities for the Sandia National Laboratory primary Nuclear Deterrence mission. This department is responsible for Hardware Management & Assembly Operations, Environmental Testing Capabilities, and Calibration Operations & Logistics. A combination of technical personnel includes engineers, technologists, administrative personnel, and subject matter experts.



The Environmental Test Facility is a critical capability in Engineering Services Program and Operations at the Sandia National Laboratories Livermore Campus. Our group performs all the environmental testing services, including vibration, shock, modal, climatic and mass properties testing for the site. We support fundamental research, development, model validation, qualification and acceptance for nuclear weapons, satellites, national missile defense, and other applications.

Security Clearance:
