What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Engineering Program/Project Lead to join our dynamic team! We are looking for a proactive individual who likes to think creatively, and can handle competing priorities in a high stress field environment. You will work across the Tri-Lab community, to maintain big picture goals while helping to engage and coordinate specific efforts.

Our team maintains responsibility for several key projects in support of the NNSA Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) including direct responsibility for the NEST Stabilization Program and parts of the Joint Technical Operations Team (JTOT). This position will provide technical and organizational coordination for the Stabilization and JTOT Arming & Firing (A&F) training programs and will provide support to the SNL Stabilization Program and JTOT A&F leadership. The position will also help sustain and evolve how the nation responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies through operational training coordination and technical training execution.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Coordinate and deconflict multiple and simultaneous Stabilization and/or A&F training with skillset managers, program leaders, training site managers, instructors, and responders

+ Plan hands-on operational training events at various training sites as well as other locations both at SNL at customer sites

+ Coordinate with the owners of the training facilities to ensure planned training events and associated hazards fit within each facility’s operational authorities

+ Coordinate planning across different partners/customers (DOE, FBI, Stabilization, etc.)

+ Manage training program budgets and execution

+ Evaluate, maintain, and improve training materials to ensure accuracy, and to ensure the materials remain up to date as the program evolves

+ Assess After Action feedback and implement improvements in training events.

+ Maintain strategic plans for continued improvements to the training program, training materials, and training facilities

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Emergency Response Management or other relevant field, plus five years of directly related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

+ Demonstrated leadership and organizational experiences coordinating large, complex, cross-cutting efforts

+ Experience managing project budgets and deliverables

+ Experience coordinating teams and working in teams of people

+ Experience working in an operational environment

+ Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent DoD clearance with ability to obtain and maintain additional clearances which may require a polygraph test

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Experience solving operational challenges to include experience improvising as situations evolve

+ Experience in some form of emergency response activities including planning, responding and coordinating

+ Experience working with Law Enforcement, Military, EOD personnel, or other Emergency Responders

+ Consistent record of demonstrating initiative and getting results by taking ownership of assignments

+ Demonstrated leadership abilities of both projects and teams and the ability to work in loosely defined areas with minimal direction while maintaining vision for the overall mission

+ Experience interacting with outside agencies to provide well-organized and professional training

+ Assist project leads in negotiating projects, deliverables and budgets with internal and external partners

+ Demonstrated ability to:

+ Engage with many different teams and customers

+ Initiate and lead discussions and problem solving among teams

+ Develop and implement new processes

+ Perform work in a fast-paced, high-pressure enviornment

+ Active SCI security clearance

About Our Team:

The Arming and Firing Systems Department serves the nation's need for innovation, research, design, development, maintenance and testing of arming and firing (A&F) systems. The department provides innovative design and development of specialized firing systems and associated electro-mechanical devices, provides specialized training including IED/IND/WMD render-safe, disable, and responder technologies, also provides arming and firing systems and training for nuclear and non-nuclear response forces. In doing so, we collaborate with multiple Sandia departments to ensure continued innovation and success to serve customers from DOE/NNSA, DoD, DOJ, DHS, and other government agencies via IHNS, DSA, and NW SMUs.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
