An exciting opportunity exists for a technical manager who will help to both advance Sandias advanced electronic device technology base and contribute directly to the nations security. The successful candidate will provide strategic and tactical direction for the **III-V Compound Semiconductor Microelectronics** and be a key member of the Microsystems Science & Technology Centers leadership team. This customer-focused Department provides a high-impact mix of novel product development and delivery, world-class technology R&D, and national security technical consulting.

The successful candidate will team within the Center, across Sandia, and with a variety of universities, other government agencies, and commercial companies. The diversity, complexity, and visibility of the departments activities provide substantial opportunities for professional development and career growth. In particular, opportunities exist to help shape the future of Sandias Trusted Rad-Hard Microelectronics strategic vision.

**Job Details:** This position requires a customer-focused individual capable of leading and managing a high-profile department to assure the delivery of both world-class scientific research and specific advanced technology product solutions. Key functions for this position include:

+ Maintaining current and building new relationships with key customers internal and external to Sandia.
+ Strategic recruiting and mentoring of high impact staff, including setting high expectations, aiding in removing roadblocks to progress, and maintaining a safe, secure, and productive work environment.
+ Supporting and incubating staff ideas and supporting program development activities for these innovations.
+ Sustaining an environment to provide staff with rewarding and challenging work leading to continued professional and personal growth.
+ Occasional travel will be required.

A management-led team of Center employees and customers will assist in the selection of the new manager for this Department.

To fully understand the National Security impact of the Departments work, the selected individual may be required to obtain an SCI clearance which includes passing a polygraph test, if requested.

Required:

+ Advanced degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience/background in lieu of education plus 8 or more years of technical experience.
+ Prior work and leadership experience in III-V microelectronic fabrication and product development operations.
+ Familiarity with Sandias policies/procedures, especially in Nuclear Deterrence product realization.
+ Experience in managing classified material and projects.
+ You must be able to obtain and maintain an active US DOE Q security clearance.

+ Ability to manage complex project commitments including customer interfaces and collaborations spanning multiple organizations.
+ Experience on government panels, conference organizing committees, scientific advisory boards, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
+ Active DOE Q Security Clearance.

Department Description:

The Departments primary responsibilities include the research and technology foundation of Group III-V compound semiconductors within the Microsystems Center for microelectronic components addressing high-performance, harsh-environment power, communication, sensing and control problems. Core Department capabilities include electronic modeling and simulation; epitaxial design, growth and characterization; rad-hard microelectronic device and circuit design, microfabrication, characterization, and reliability; and high-reliability microelectronic product development. The current scope of activities includes executing the full product realization process for high-voltage, rad-hard, III-V small-scale integrated circuits, research, development, and technology maturation of next generation Rad-hard III-V and ultra-wide bandgap power electronics within our multi-million-dollar UWBG R&D program, and MBE growth of novel semiconductor materials for high-consequence device applications.

Support for these activities is via a balanced portfolio of external partnerships, internal partnerships, and internal research funding. The Departments staff is highly motivated, interactive, and mutually supportive, performing both individual and small group R&D in a dynamic and friendly team atmosphere. They seamlessly support product delivery and perform leading-edge research in collaboration with many groups across the Lab.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.
