Join a dynamic team that helps tackle some of the most challenging issues facing our nation’s security! You could be the highly motivated R&D Mechanical Engineer to be part of our diverse team!



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Conduct component and system level testing to support all Sandia programs as required, including nuclear weapons, non-proliferation, and a variety of work for other customers



+ Work collaboratively with other staff and technologists on many challenging and innovative projects to perform quality mechanical testing for customers



+ Support efforts to identify and implement both technical and operational laboratory improvements



+ Contribute to research projects and publishing technical work



+ Provide technical guidance to laboratory technologists



+ Support the development and execution of test specifications to ensure test units are exposed to the correct environments



+ Implement work planning and control processes to assure safe, secure, and high-quality operations

Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in a related STEM field or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development



+ Experience with structural dynamics, solid mechanics, and/or non-destructive evaluation such as radiography



+ Experience with basic laboratory test equipment, including data acquisition equipment, signal conditioners, and measurement sensors



+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q/Sigma clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Experience with structural dynamics test development, including familiarity with classical dynamic, structural and non-destructive evaluation equipment, test setup, and data acquisition systems



+ Experience with advanced data or image processing techniques



+ Experience and familiarity with Work Instructions and non-conformance reports



+ Experience with work planning and controls processes



+ Experience with high consequence safety operations, including explosive and radioactive related processes



+ Ability to interpret, organize, and document experimental results



+ Excellent personal interaction skills with management and technologists



+ The ability to work effectively in a close team environment



+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills





About Our Team:



The Vibration/Acoustics Simulation Department, 01521, within the Engineering Sciences Center, 01500, specializes in replicating normal, hostile, and abnormal environments through tailored and controllable vibration/shock, acoustic, and thermal tests. In addition to vibration and acoustics capabilities, the department also has the ability to accurately take mass properties measurements for small and large-scale test articles. Test data is used to characterize the structural response of systems to a variety of environments. The work includes integration with environments engineering and advancement of diagnostics and experimental capabilities. These integrated capabilities support applied and fundamental laboratory research, model validation, experimental model development, and characterization of hardware behavior during operational environments in the development, qualification, and acceptance phases of a broad range of national security missions that include nuclear weapons deterrents, satellite assets, missile defense, conventional military technologies, infrastructure and energy security, and other applications.
